{"id":97,"date":"2012-09-13T11:29:00","date_gmt":"2012-09-13T17:29:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newstayathomemom.com\/?p=97"},"modified":"2013-02-06T12:15:32","modified_gmt":"2013-02-06T19:15:32","slug":"wednesday-week-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newstayathomemom.com\/?p=97","title":{"rendered":"Coffee break"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I went to a committee meeting slash dinner last night (well, actually no meeting, all dinner.\u00a0 And drinks.) and sat at a table with mostly\u00a0stay at home moms who were very curious to hear how it&#8217;s going with me.\u00a0 They&#8217;ve all heard through the school grapevine that I&#8217;ve joined their ranks\u00a0(see blog Day 3 for an explanation of how the school grapevine works &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/newstayathomemom.com\/?p=17\">http:\/\/newstayathomemom.com\/?p=17<\/a>) and they wanted to know how I like it.<\/p>\n<p>Duh &#8211; Love it!<\/p>\n<p>And then, looking to fit in and show how I was\u00a0&#8220;one&#8221; with them, that we were\u00a0&#8220;simpatico,&#8221; that\u00a0they are my &#8220;peeps&#8221; (what&#8217;up, what&#8217;up home mom!)\u00a0\u00a0I regaled them with a story about how I had a mutual acquaintance over for homemade cake and cup of coffee that afternoon.\u00a0\u00a0To which they were all &#8220;wait, wait, wait.\u00a0 SHE brought cake?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Me: &#8220;No, <em>I<\/em> made cake.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Them: &#8220;Huh?\u00a0 You <em>made<\/em> cake? And <em>served<\/em> it with\u00a0<em>coffee<\/em> to a <em>friend<\/em> at your <em>house<\/em>?!&#8221;\u00a0 And they&#8217;re all looking from one to the other and shrugging their shoulders.\u00a0 Next, I expected they would try to poke each other in the eyes while saying nyuck nyuck nyuck like some stay at home mom version of the three stooges.<\/p>\n<p>Me: &#8220;Helloooo. I mean come on!\u00a0 Isn&#8217;t that\u00a0what we <em>do<\/em>?!\u00a0 Isn&#8217;t this what you&#8217;ve all been doing since your first child went to school?\u00a0 Having each other over for cake and coffee and leaving the working moms out?&#8221; [I was a little more jokey sounding and less angry and desperate than it&#8217;s coming across here.\u00a0 I think.]<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>Honestly, doesn&#8217;t anyone else remember their\u00a0mother having women friends over for cake and coffee in the afternoon?\u00a0\u00a0It&#8217;s what they did, right?\u00a0 My mom did it so\u00a0well that she even had little fancy containers (matching, white with bumps all over them like those old popcorn-y bedspreads) for the cream and sugar.\u00a0 But I thought I was modernizing the whole affair by not having any containers.\u00a0 My guest just helped herself to the sugar directly from\u00a0the sugar jar and milk out of the carton.<\/p>\n<p>[as a side note, coffee is WAY easier to make nowadays than I remember it was back then.\u00a0 It took like 20 hours and you had to assemble metal items and maybe even a spring or two then balance it all on some sort of\u00a0stick within the coffee pot.\u00a0 Then the coffee had to bubble up through this little glass spout at the top.\u00a0 I believe that was called &#8220;percolating&#8221; but it seemed really confusing and time-consuming and you had to prepare it long before\u00a0people even\u00a0walked in the door]<\/p>\n<p>And here we&#8217;ve come to the crux of the problem (no,\u00a0not that\u00a0coffee can now be made on-the-fly.\u00a0 Or that I don&#8217;t have fancy cream and sugar containers, &#8217;cause I do.\u00a0 I just didn&#8217;t use them).\u00a0 Rather, maybe\u00a0I&#8217;m operating under some 1970&#8217;s version of what I should be doing??<\/p>\n<p>Good Lord!\u00a0 Where&#8217;s the pamphlet from the OB\/GYN&#8217;s office when you need it?!?\u00a0 It&#8217;s hard to get this right!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I went to a committee meeting slash dinner last night (well, actually no meeting, all dinner.\u00a0 And drinks.) and sat at a table with mostly\u00a0stay at home moms who were very curious to hear how it&#8217;s going with me.\u00a0 They&#8217;ve all heard through the school grapevine that I&#8217;ve joined their ranks\u00a0(see blog Day 3 for [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[1],"tags":[],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/newstayathomemom.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/97"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/newstayathomemom.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/newstayathomemom.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/newstayathomemom.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/newstayathomemom.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=97"}],"version-history":[{"count":5,"href":"https:\/\/newstayathomemom.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/97\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":696,"href":"https:\/\/newstayathomemom.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/97\/revisions\/696"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/newstayathomemom.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=97"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/newstayathomemom.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=97"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/newstayathomemom.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=97"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
