{"id":911,"date":"2013-02-27T07:39:55","date_gmt":"2013-02-27T14:39:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newstayathomemom.com\/?p=911"},"modified":"2013-02-27T07:39:55","modified_gmt":"2013-02-27T14:39:55","slug":"stitch-n-bitch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newstayathomemom.com\/?p=911","title":{"rendered":"Stitch &#8216;n Bitch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I just downloaded this book from the library to my Nook.\u00a0 (Home Mom in the house, savin&#8217; money!\u00a0 Whoop, whoop!!!).<\/p>\n<p>Yes. \u00a0 That is the actual name of the book.\u00a0 Stitch &#8216;n Bitch by Debbie Stoller.<\/p>\n<p>I originally got the\u00a0book thinking it might be a\u00a0murder-mystery; The dead body stabbed through the heart with knitting needles or something like that.\u00a0 But turns out it&#8217;s an actual book ABOUT\u00a0knitting.<\/p>\n<p>Which is really a good thing\u00a0because\u00a0as a new stay at home mom, I&#8217;ve recently turned to knitting to 1) save money on gifts and 2) fill up my time as high-powered-marketing-executive-forcibly-turned-to-leisure-time.\u00a0 &#8216;Cept after a few months, I find I&#8217;m\u00a0a little bored with the scarves and socks I&#8217;ve been knitting for everyone (hi family, friends and neighbors!).\u00a0 And that&#8217;s where this book comes in.\u00a0 I\u00a0want to move on to something more, and you can&#8217;t BELIEVE the ideas for &#8220;more&#8221; that are in this book.<\/p>\n<p>But the downside is that\u00a0the\u00a0&#8220;language&#8221; of knitting (and make no mistake, knitting is a language and a world unto itself) is a little confusing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;And I&#8217;m\u00a0normally so\u00a0GOOD at\u00a0languages.\u00a0\u00a0I can &#8220;translate&#8221; into marketing speak anything a computer programmer says\u00a0as he sits on his big, blue, core-strengthening excercise ball in his cut-off jean shorts and birkenstocks, tappity, tap, tapping away on his keyboard in outer space.\u00a0 And don&#8217;t EVEN get me started on talking the\u00a0pompous language of Data Management with its holier-than-thou acronyms like service-oriented architecture (SOA) especially in the context of leveraging a flexible architectural model for the purposes of\u00a0BI (Business Intelligence) and DI (Data Integration).\u00a0 To say nothing of\u00a0the necessity in this scenario\u00a0for\u00a0Master Data Management (MDM) with it\u2019s customer data integration and data governance &amp; compliance demands!\u00a0 Sarbanes-Oxley anyone?<\/p>\n<p>See??!\u00a0 I can speak many different languages.\u00a0 But I struggle with the\u00a0language of knitting.\u00a0\u00a0Is it because\u00a0knitting is a LOT like math?\u00a0\u00a0Knit one, purl two.\u00a0\u00a0Totally math.\u00a0\u00a0And when you add in the fact that there are Continental AND English knitting styles, little ol&#8217; left-handed me doesn&#8217;t know which way is up (hint: when you hold up your hand with the pointer finger and thumb at ninety-degrees, the one that makes an &#8220;L&#8221; is the left one, which is &#8220;up&#8221;).\u00a0 So it requires an entire book in order to understand it.\u00a0 And once you get deeper into it, you realize the book MUST have &#8216;Bitch&#8217; in the title.\u00a0 Gaaah!\u00a0 Totally appropriate.\u00a0\u00a0Totally, totally appropriate.<\/p>\n<p>And\u00a0just to level-set here&#8230;I recognize that I may have slipped off the deep-end with my knitted approach to gifts.\u00a0 So please feel free to tell me.<\/p>\n<p>And also?\u00a0 If you EVER see a knitted Princess Snowball Cat Bed in my house &#8211; or I start giving them as gifts?\u00a0 Shoot me.\u00a0 And if you ever see me knitting a BIKINI??!\u00a0 Ditto.\u00a0\u00a0And if\u00a0for some reason me KNITTING the bikini has escaped your notice and you see me\u00a0WEARING a knitted bikini?!??\u00a0 Shoot to kill.\u00a0 No questions asked.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I just downloaded this book from the library to my Nook.\u00a0 (Home Mom in the house, savin&#8217; money!\u00a0 Whoop, whoop!!!).
