I really mean my 10-year-old daughter who woke everyone else up based on the exciting possibilities the day held).\u00a0 Backwards p.j.&#8217;s worn to sleep\u00a0must&#8217;ve worked, because desired snow day was announced at\u00a06:15 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>Uh.\u00a0 Kinda late don&#8217;t you think?!\u00a0 At that point, everyone was already up &#8211; including\u00a0my rat of a husband who quickly exited stage left even while mumbling something about not being &#8220;able&#8221; to work from home and\u00a0issuing strict instructions NOT to call him at 11:00 crying about &#8220;not being able to take it&#8221; and to &#8220;please come\u00a0home asap.&#8221;\u00a0 Blah, blah, blah.\u00a0 Whatever.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway&#8230;so&#8230;here we are at 11:00 a.m. on a snowy Thursday.\u00a0\u00a0The kids have been sent out to play in the snow for the SECOND time yet this morning.\u00a0\u00a0Mean mommy may be lurking about because of the early start to the day (Again, really??\u00a0 Announce the school closing WAY earlier next time!!) and also because she may be\u00a0fighting a head-cold.<\/p>\n<p>In an effort to take it\u00a0easy\u00a0(shhhh &#8211; we&#8217;re trying\u00a0to be vewy, vewy qwiet), rather than coming up with new blog content, I&#8217;ve decided to\u00a0reprise &#8220;The Anatomy of a Snow Day&#8221;\u00a0which\u00a0I wrote for my co-workers&#8217; amusement\u00a0TWO FULL YEARS AGO\u00a0(when my daughter, Sissy,\u00a0was 8 and my son, Sonny,\u00a0was 6, and we had a snow day like today with the added nuance of me having\u00a0one of them-there jobs you folks are always nattering on about).<\/p>\n<p>And now!\u00a0 Without further ado!\u00a0 I bring to you&#8230;.(drum roll please)&#8230;The Anatomy of a Snow Day!!!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Tuesday, February 1, 2011 &#8211; 8:30 a.m.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The kids actually got up EARLIER than normal (around 5:45 am b\/c some weird 6<sup>th<\/sup> kid-sense told them it was a snow day and therefore they didn\u2019t have to sleep in like a regular school day).<\/li>\n<li>Proceeded to play and play and play.<\/li>\n<li>They STILL have not had breakfast because they\u2019ve been too busy playing.<\/li>\n<li>Surprisingly enough the fighting has not yet begun.\u00a0 Mostly b\/c my daughter has been individually turning her room into a Littlest Petshop Extravaganza whereas my son has been turning his into a bedroom-sized Legoland.<\/li>\n<li>They are now coming down the stairs discussing \u201cfort\u201d plans.<\/li>\n<li>I have quietly closed the office door.<\/li>\n<li>Still no breakfast for anyone.\u00a0 I have had 3 cups of coffee though.<\/li>\n<li>There was a brief report (from Sissy) that Sonny\u00a0had eaten some Gummi Bears without being allowed.<\/li>\n<li>Then there was some sort of \u201cjumping contest\u201d complete with the phrases \u201cdon\u2019t do it that way, you\u2019ll hurt yourself\u201d and \u201cwatch out, I\u2019m coming down!\u201d<\/li>\n<li>I can now hear muffled crying through the closed office door.<\/li>\n<li>Am going to make breakfast.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Tuesday, February 1, 2011 &#8211; 10:30 a.m.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Originally it seemed like the blueberry syrup on the waffles for breakfast might have been a particularly bad idea since it revved up the energy levels<\/li>\n<li>But the kids have been playing quietly upstairs for a good, long while now<\/li>\n<li>Apparently Sissy\u00a0is playing the role of the 8-year-old-sister named Sissy\u00a0and Sonny\u00a0is her \u201czero-baby\u201d brother named Tyler (a zero-baby is a baby not yet a year old).\u00a0 Because Tyler is so little, he has to be pushed around everywhere in a laundry basket.\u00a0 I forgot to mention that Sissy\u00a0is also a nurse.\u00a0 Quite a feat for an 8-year-old!<\/li>\n<li>They have paused once in a while to beg to go outside, but words like \u201cfrostbite\u201d and \u201csubzero\u201d seem to be holding them off for now.\u00a0 The term \u201chellaciously cold\u201d may have also been used to dissuade.<\/li>\n<li>The thermometer in the sun registers minus 10 degrees Fahrenheit.<\/li>\n<li>Sissy\u00a0(as herself, not as Sissy-the-older-sister-of-Tyler) has just reported that she and Sonny\u00a0(as himself, not as Tyler-the-zero-baby) are \u201cgetting along the best we\u2019ve ever gotten!\u201d<\/li>\n<li>I am expecting it to all go down-hill shortly<\/li>\n<li>Especially since I just heard Sissy\u00a0declare from upstairs that they should try to go the whole day without watching t.v\u2026.followed shortly by someone shouting \u201cOw!
