{"id":55,"date":"2012-09-04T09:32:49","date_gmt":"2012-09-04T15:32:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newstayathomemom.com\/?p=55"},"modified":"2012-09-04T09:37:12","modified_gmt":"2012-09-04T15:37:12","slug":"tuesday-the-day-after-labor-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newstayathomemom.com\/?p=55","title":{"rendered":"Tuesday &#8211; the day AFTER Labor Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When you were in grade school, do you remember that sinking feeling you would always get\u00a0at the end of a long weekend?\u00a0 Despite your best efforts, knowing you had to go to school the next day always ruined the last few hours of your time off.<\/p>\n<p>Well, some things never\u00a0change.\u00a0\u00a0Today&#8217;s\u00a0youth\u00a0<em>still<\/em> feels that way.<\/p>\n<p>Case in point, last night we were sitting at the kitchen table coming down from the Labor Day Weekend high, and my 10-year-old daughter (an A student I might add) commented on how she didn&#8217;t want to go to school tomorrow.\u00a0 In fact the exact words were, &#8220;I hate school.\u00a0\u00a0It&#8217;s boring and you have to wake up early!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0I wish I could trade places with you.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Understanding that\u00a0the &#8220;you&#8221; she meant\u00a0actually included her father and\u00a0didn&#8217;t really\u00a0include me (or doesn&#8217;t include me <em>right now<\/em> that is but\u00a0I&#8217;m looking for a job, so it will shortly include me again.\u00a0 Hi, Unemployment Agency!)\u00a0I was\u00a0particularly\u00a0curious to know what sort of glamorous picture she has painted of the work-a-day world.\u00a0 So I asked, &#8220;what do you think we do at work all day?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>She replied, &#8220;type emails, do calls.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>[Why yes.\u00a0 That&#8217;s\u00a0exactly right!\u00a0 How thrilling it all is when you put it that way!!]<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But wait, Honey&#8230;.<em>we<\/em>\u00a0wake up early too.\u00a0\u00a0Does that ruin your &#8216;work is nothin&#8217; but good times&#8217; theory?!\u00a0 And what about all the business\u00a0 trips?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Yeah, Mom.\u00a0 That too.\u00a0\u00a0You fly on planes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Hmmm&#8230;back when I graduated from college, getting a job seemed so much harder.\u00a0 That may have been because there were no computers and therefore no emails to type so\u00a0you had to come up with other mad skilllzzz that proved your worth?!<\/p>\n<p>Double major in college?\u00a0 Check!\u00a0 Acquired a master&#8217;s degree in 18 months while working full-time?\u00a0\u00a0Check!\u00a0 Managed a half dozen people and have\u00a0years of progressive work experience with\u00a0several promotions under your belt to prove it? Checkity check check!!<\/p>\n<p>And &#8211; well &#8211; now that them there compewters are prevalent and portable, and my job has been taken away after 25 years in the working world, it still seems a bit harder than that, but maybe it&#8217;s not.\u00a0 Maybe I&#8217;ve been focusing on all the wrong stuff?\u00a0 Perhaps I\u00a0just\u00a0have to find a 10-year-old girl-who-doesn&#8217;t-want-to-go-back-to-school-after-a-long-week-end to interview me.\u00a0 The\u00a0significantly shortened version of my resume\u00a0I would provide her with would look something\u00a0like this:<\/p>\n<p><strong>NAME<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> Address<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> Phone Number<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> LinkedIn profile hyperlink symbol<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> Facebook Page hyperlink<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> Fancy Underlining<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> Stunning Summary of my hopes and desires\u00a0(with frequently used keywords)<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Work Experience:<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> 1. Can type emails<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> 2. Can \u201cdo\u201d calls<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> 3.
