Is there anything more excruciating than a grade\u00a0school Christmas concert?!?<\/p>\n
Which was made that much more painful\u00a0because it required\u00a0scrambling around\u00a0in order\u00a0to find\u00a0black bottoms and white tops\u00a0during the week leading up to said concert.\u00a0 Daughter didn’t have black bottoms so\u00a0I made her a skirt which made me feel a little like Caroline Ingalls because I had to cut-down one of mine.\u00a0 Yes, it’s a sewing term.\u00a0 Google it.\u00a0 And son didn’t have a white top…unless you count his slowly-turning-gray uniform dress shirt which is what he was forced to wear but we “hid” it behind his red snowman tie because red accents were allowed.<\/p>\n
To set the scene for you, let\u00a0me mention that all\u00a075 third\u00a0graders played\u00a0Silent Night on their recorders.\u00a0 Why yes.\u00a0 Yes it was just as awful as it sounds.\u00a0 Stray cats dying up on stage would have sounded better.\u00a0 And as a side note, my son needs to learn how to play the recorder with both hands on top<\/em> of the instrument because I don’t think the hand on the bottom<\/em> was adding much value.\u00a0 (He said during a later conversation that his hand was all sweaty and so he did that “wrist twist” to try to keep the recorder from slipping – which didn’t make any sense because it was attached to a lanyard hung around his neck; it wasn’t slipping anywhere.)<\/p>\n He’s of the playing-the-recorder-is-similar-to-playing-the-harmonica school of thought.\u00a0 You just THINK the tune and\u00a0it happens for you.\u00a0 It doesn’t matter where your hands are.<\/p>\n The\u00a0jazzy version of O Come, Emmanuel!<\/span> was slightly less terrible than the recorder extravaganza.<\/p>\n The\u00a0manger scene?\u00a0 Oh, you mean the manger scene complete with 5th-grade-girls-dressed-as-angels and talking\/singing animals, right??\u00a0 Okay…I guess it was cute in a terrifying lambs-really-shouldn’t-sing sort of way.<\/p>\n But I was so proud of my own darling 5th grade girl\u00a0when it came time for her big narration scene (“but there was no room for them in the inn…”\u00a0 Does anyone NOT know how this\u00a0play is gonna end?!).\u00a0 The microphone cut out right in the middle of her lines.\u00a0\u00a0I have seen lesser\u00a0women thrown by this scenario – but my little girl kept her cool.\u00a0 She paused.\u00a0 Adjusted the microphone.\u00a0 And started her lines again.<\/p>\n If I haven’t said this before, then I’m saying it now – God bless us, everyone!\u00a0\u00a0And no one more than the music teacher…and the kids in the Christmas concert!!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Is there anything more excruciating than a grade\u00a0school Christmas concert?!?
