Sissy and I were in the car this morning talking about tomorrow\u2019s Superbowl Halftime Show (which is as far as my interest in football goes). I think Adam Levine from Maroon Five is fiiiiine!\u00a0 And incredibly tiny in stature. So he\u2019s not the guy for me since I could hipcheck him into the wall.<\/em><\/p>\n

She turns to me and she says, \u201cYou know how my English teacher likes Roger Federer? Well her historical crush is Thomas Paine!\u201d<\/p>\n

Hold up.\u00a0 HISTORICAL CRUSH?!\u00a0 I didn\u2019t even know we were DOING historical crushes!!\u00a0 Don\u2019t we have enough handsome men nowadays that we can leave the Founding Fathers out of it??!<\/em><\/p>\n

Me: \u201cReally? Was he incredibly good looking or something?\u201d<\/p>\n

Sissy, shrugging her shoulders, proceeds to look him up on her phone and we both take a gander. Ok, nope, not incredibly good looking.\u00a0 So to protect her teacher\u2019s taste in men from my censure, she says, \u201cI think she really likes his writing.\u201d Hmmmm\u2026ok, whatever. <\/em><\/p>\n

But this launches me into thinking aloud about MY historical crush. I\u2019ve never even thought about this before.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t know we WERE thinking about this!\u00a0 But you better believe I\u2019m thinking about it now.\u00a0 As are you. Am I\u00a0right?<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cAlexander Hamilton on the $10 bill is hot. But if we can branch out from the Signers of the Declaration of Independence then I\u2019d say Jamie Fraser.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sissy immediately vetos this choice since Jamie\u2019s not a real person. But he\u2019s real to me!<\/em>\"\"<\/p>\n

Feeling somewhat stupid\u00a0about my\u00a0crush on fictional men, I immediately throw my older sister under the bus by saying, \u201cYou know who Aunt MiMi* thought was cute when we were younger? Race Bannon!\u00a0 He was Johnny Quest\u2019s bodyguard in the Johnny Quest cartoon.\u201d\u00a0 As this has now become my\u00a0personal game of pile-on,\u00a0I continue, \u201cAnd she also thought Aquaman was cute. The blond one from the 70\u2019s, not the one from the recent movie, though he\u2019s not bad either.\u201d Afterall,<\/em> Khal Drogo would be my\u00a0OTHER vote for historical crush!<\/em><\/p>\n

Sissy: \u201cOk, enough. No pretend people.\u00a0 Only real ones.\u201d<\/p>\n

Me: \u201cAlright, then I\u2019d have to say Johnny Gage.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sissy: \u201cReally? Who\u2019s that?!?\u201d<\/p>\n

Me: \u201cI’m not sure he’s historical enough, but in the 1970\u2019s he and his partner, Roy DeSoto, were the first paramedics for LA County\u2019s Squad 51 Fire Department.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sissy types his name into her phone,\u00a0sees that I\u2019m talking about Randolph Mantooth from the Emergency<\/em> tv show and says, \u201cWe\u2019re done here.\u00a0 If you can\u2019t be serious talking about your historical crush, then we won\u2019t talk about it at all.\u201d<\/p>\n
