{"id":459,"date":"2012-12-12T17:40:31","date_gmt":"2012-12-13T00:40:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newstayathomemom.com\/?p=459"},"modified":"2013-02-06T13:04:52","modified_gmt":"2013-02-06T20:04:52","slug":"wednesday-week-17","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newstayathomemom.com\/?p=459","title":{"rendered":"You say poh-tay-tow, I say poh-tot-tow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Worked Teacher Appreciation Luncheon all day yesterday.\u00a0 It was exhausting!\u00a0 I was literally on my feet for 6 hours straight.\u00a0 Which reminds\u00a0me that when I find a job &#8211; it totally needs to be a\u00a0desk job.<\/p>\n<p>Previously (before they took my job) for the Teacher\u00a0Appreciation Luncheon effort, I would have participated in the planning (via email) with maybe a coffee-meet-up thrown in along with\u00a0a twenty\u00a0buck contribution.\u00a0 And then I would have capped the effort off with a hostess-with-the-mostess approach by working for an hour serving the lunch.<\/p>\n<p>But this time around I was\u00a0in charge of the\u00a0student participation component of the meal (each child cut out a star and wrote their\u00a0Christmas wish for their teacher on it.\u00a0 We then hung the stars on\u00a0paper Christmas\u00a0trees throughout the luncheon room.\u00a0 Cute, right?!).\u00a0 And I also planned and executed the lunch &#8211; from\u00a0purchasing supplies, to set up (starting first thing in the a.m., right after carpool drop off), through lunch service all the way to clean-up and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>Like I said&#8230;it&#8217;s exhausting.<\/p>\n<p>First off, people, please\u00a0bring what you&#8217;re\u00a0supposed to bring.\u00a0 Unless you have the\u00a0stomach bug &#8211; in which case no, no we don&#8217;t need your salad after all.\u00a0 But other than that,\u00a0please provide the dish you committed to,\u00a0and please make sure it&#8217;s enough to feed the 10-to-15 people like we requested, and not just 3.<\/p>\n<p>Take the mashed potatoes for example.\u00a0 Someone supplied a little, tiiiiiiny container.\u00a0 And someone substituted stuffing instead.<\/p>\n<p>But God is present in all things and the balance of the mashed potatoes we desperately needed to round out\u00a0our &#8220;Christmas Dinner&#8221; theme walked in the door (a huge crock pot full &#8211; complete with another crock pot full of gravy!!!) 5 minutes before lunch started.\u00a0 Seriously.\u00a0 We were right in the middle of calling the other party planner out of her morning spin class to run and get some mashed potatoes asap.\u00a0 But then the potatoes walked in the door.\u00a0 Those there were\u00a0some divine-intervention spuds!!<\/p>\n<p>Even so, it did get to be pretty slim pickin&#8217;s\u00a0at the end.\u00a0 We slowly downsized to smaller\u00a0serving spoons as the meal went on and then began <em>serving<\/em>\u00a0little dollops instead of having them <em>help themselves<\/em> as part of our potato conversation efforts.\u00a0 (wished we thought of that sooner, d&#8217;oh!)<\/p>\n<p>There was even one point where we were trying to come up with a recipe for MORE potatoes using rolls, heavy cream and butter.\u00a0\u00a0But saner heads prevailed and we settled for moving the rolls closer to the gravy for a make-your-own-biscuits-and-gravy concept, while adding the heavy cream and butter to thin out the remaining potatoes.\u00a0\u00a0Though we were forced to\u00a0pull\u00a0the potatoes totally off the table towards the end and reserve them for the\u00a0last batch of teachers to come through so they could get a little taste.<\/p>\n<p>But all&#8217;s well that end&#8217;s well and we received so many thank yous from these wonderful people who are with our\u00a0children all the live-long day, that it made me feel guilty we don&#8217;t do more to thank them for their efforts.\u00a0 Except for provide them with a Christmas Dinner with too few potatoes and lots and lots of stars!<\/p>\n<p>P.S.
