{"id":4557,"date":"2017-07-14T16:23:51","date_gmt":"2017-07-14T22:23:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newstayathomemom.com\/?p=4557"},"modified":"2018-08-31T12:13:36","modified_gmt":"2018-08-31T18:13:36","slug":"stranger-danger","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newstayathomemom.com\/?p=4557","title":{"rendered":"Stranger Danger"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Periodically, I think about Stranger Danger.\u00a0 Mostly at inopportune times, when suddenly it occurs to me I haven\u2019t discussed Stranger Danger enough with my kids.<\/p>\n<p>And while most kids may be startled and thrown off by this approach, my kids have learned to roll with it \u2013 as one would when one has such a charming and fun (not to mention pretty!) mother.<\/p>\n<p>Case in point?\u00a0 This latest example of The Stranger Danger Talk.<\/p>\n<p>Hubby and I were at the airport earlier this week getting ready to ship the kids back east by themselves to visit my parents (thanks, Mom &amp; Dad!).<\/p>\n<p>As we were waiting at the gate, I took a look at their tickets and noticed that while they were both in the same row, one was seated by the window and one was on the aisle.\u00a0 Which left a whole seat open in between them for\u2026duhn, duhn, duhn\u2026STRANGER DANGER!<\/p>\n<p>So we discussed all the ways they could avoid being separated by a stranger intent on sitting in between them on the plane.\u00a0 But because I can\u2019t leave well enough alone and now Stranger Danger is in my head, I asked them both quietly what they would do if a stranger did sit between them despite their best efforts and tried to touch my babies-on-a-plane-by-themselves inappropriately.<\/p>\n<p>Sissy, not at her first Stranger Danger rodeo, immediately launches in to how she \u2013 if the stranger is a guy \u2013 will punch him in the throat and groin while shouting \u201cStranger Danger!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sonny, watching Sissy go through her Stranger Danger motions chimes in with, \u201cI call what she\u2019s doing the Pinocchio Approach.\u201d\u00a0 At which point he mimics a wooden boy whose puppeteer is pulling on his strings such that his right arm and right leg are moving simultaneously in a punching\/kicking motion.\u00a0 Up and out.\u00a0 Up and out.\u00a0 Up and out.<\/p>\n<p><em>Ok, good.\u00a0 They know some stuff.\u00a0 The Pinocchio Approach is a nice touch.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>So I pose my next question, \u201cBut what if it\u2019s a woman?\u00a0 Stranger Dangers aren\u2019t always men.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To which Sissy replies with, \u201cthen you do THIS!\u201d And she demonstrates with more hand motions \u2013 two fists coming straight at my chest.<\/p>\n<p>I back away and say, \u201cREALLY?!\u00a0 Did you learn that somewhere??\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She says, \u201cNo, but I know when I get hit with a softball in the boob it really hurts, so I figured that would work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Hmmm.\u00a0 That\u2019s a great point.\u00a0 I\u2019ve gotten a chestful of soccer ball myself and what she says is true.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>But since we haven\u2019t heard nearly enough from Sonny on the topic, I turn to him and ask him what he would do during Stranger Danger.<\/p>\n<p>He said that no matter who it was, he\u2019d punch them in the stomach and then shout, \u201cI\u2019m not going to like your social media posts!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And thus concludes another successful conversation on the topic of Stranger Danger.\u00a0 Stranger Danger 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks for stopping by.\u00a0 Where have you been these last few months?\u00a0 I missed you.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t be such a&#8230;Stranger next time.\u00a0 <em>Heh, heh, heh.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Periodically, I think about Stranger Danger.\u00a0 Mostly at inopportune times, when suddenly it occurs to me I haven\u2019t discussed Stranger Danger enough with my kids.
