Ok, that religious blog<\/a> thing didn\u2019t work out so well for me. So that\u2019s done.<\/p>\n

Going secular again\u2026<\/p>\n

I resist watching Downton Abbey the way I resist Pinterest. I\u2019m not gettin\u2019 involved.\u00a0 I\u2019m not even gonna get involved.\u00a0 Because if I do, there will be no hope for me.\u00a0 I\u2019ll be a goner.\u00a0 Time suck – – – activate!<\/p>\n

So I resist. Resistance is futile, Earthling.<\/em><\/p>\n

Until this past Sunday when I was running on the treadmill, trying to avoid reading a book for \u2018hood book club by flipping through t.v. channels when I came across a PBS special about Downton Abbey. I stopped there because it was about time I knew what everyone was talking about.\u00a0 I was sick of hearing things like, \u201cYOU don\u2019t watch Downton Abbey?!,\u201d all shock and awe.\u00a0 Or, \u201cI can\u2019t believe you don\u2019t watch Downton Abbey; I figured you for a Downton Abbey watcher.\u201d<\/p>\n

Really? How are people figuring me for something like this?\u00a0 Do I wear a cloche hat overtop my Marcel waves and this is what gives me away as a Downton Abbey watcher?! And are we still saying \u2018figured you for\u2019 in casual conversation?!\u00a0 Isn’t it kindof like\u00a0saying, “Them there vittles my misses made be real fine.”\u00a0 Nope, no one’s saying stuff like that anymore.<\/em><\/p>\n

Anyway, I watched the rest of this particular episode and it was AMAZING! There was a wedding, the butler with a tremor retires in pride, champagne was passed around at midnight on New Year\u2019s Eve and a baby was born in Lady Elaine Everley\u2019s bed.\u00a0 It reminded me of General Hospital back in the day before Anna Devane fell in love with the Star Man and the whole thing jumped the shark.<\/p>\n

GadZOOKS! Downton Abbey\u00a0is GORGEOUS!\u00a0 Why are we not all living in that place?\u00a0 And doing good works at that hospital with what’shername from Racing with the Moon<\/em>?\u00a0 And wearing those completely fabulous dresses\u2026and hats\u2026and jewelry\u2026and shoes\u2026and talking like THAT?!?\u00a0 Even the servants got it goin’ ON below-stairs with their accents and drop waist dresses.\u00a0\u00a0Practically the whole cast of those Marigold Hotel movies is involved somehow\u00a0too.<\/p>\n

I am. IN! I am sooooo in!!!!\u00a0 Count me in!\u00a0 COUNT ME IN!!!!\u00a0 Y\u2019all figured right the whole time.\u00a0 I\u2019m a Downton Abbey watcher.\u00a0 Now!\u00a0 No, now!\u00a0 NOW!!!<\/p>\n

The scene I\u2019m watching ends on a close-up of that man with the cane kissing his wife over the top of their newborn\u2019s head. Fade to external shot of the Abbey with snow falling softly into the night.<\/em><\/p>\n

Gah, AWESOME!\u00a0 Num, num, num.\u00a0 I could eat you Downton Abbey.\u00a0 Get in my belly!<\/em><\/p>\n

Suddenly we\u2019re back in the loud PBS studio and the announcer says, \u201cAnd that\u2019s the last episode of Downton Abbey. We\u2019re sad to see it go.\u201d<\/p>\n

Whaaaaa?! Wait, WHAAAAAA?!??\u00a0 What the WHAT?\u00a0 That\u2019s the END?\u00a0 THE END??!\u00a0 But I just joined.\u00a0 I\u2019m IN.\u00a0 How can it be OUT when I\u2019m finally IN?!<\/p>\n
