I made wild grape dumplings for the Native American project open house in my son’s classroom today.\u00a0 As he says, “they sold out!”<\/p>\n
No – we weren’t actually selling them, just sampling them.\u00a0 But in seeing how fast the samples went,\u00a0he\u00a0hatched a brilliant plan wherein I make more dumplings and he takes them around in the wagon to various neighbors and sells them for 25 cents each or 2 for $1.00.<\/p>\n
There are so many flaws in the plan, I don’t know where to begin – other than to say the dumplings are absolutely horrible and\u00a0no one would ever buy them.\u00a0 Picture a chicken nugget from McDonald’s but a weird gray\/purple color.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0And rubbery.\u00a0 In order to make them halfway\u00a0palatable for 75\u00a0third graders I squirted a\u00a0ton of grape jelly on them.\u00a0 I sent them off to school with a bunch of toothpicks and\u00a0strict instructions that each child should use a NEW toothpick when they took a sample.<\/p>\n
Too bad I didn’t get a chance to give\u00a0my son’s classmate, Andrew,\u00a0the same speech.\u00a0 I\u00a0found out on the car ride home that Andrew was collecting the used toothpicks on the back end\u00a0and then going around to the\u00a0front of the line and handing them out again.\u00a0 What?!!?\u00a0\u00a0Good Lord!!!\u00a0 Who is Andrew and WHY did he think that would be helpful?<\/p>\n
Funny?\u00a0 Totally.\u00a0 Parentally approved?\u00a0 Absolutely not because now\u00a0I’m pretty sure\u00a0the majority of the third graders will shortly be coming down with throwing up sickness and when the vomir is purple, they’ll know exactly what caused it.<\/p>\n
The person I feel most sorry for in this whole scenario is the Seminole stay at home mom who had to make the wild grape dumpling\u00a0“treats” for her kids\u00a0without sugar, an oven, sugar, flour, grape jelly\u00a0or really anything useful.\u00a0 Do you suppose\u00a0the first Seminole mom whipped the recipe up\u00a0in her boiling pot when the kiddos complained, “there’s nothing good to eat!” ?!\u00a0\u00a0 God bless the\u00a0ingenuity of all\u00a0moms when faced with that comment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
