Prairie Dogs?\u00a0 What, are those like Jackalopes or something?!<\/em>\u00a0 That\u2019s what my cousin thought during her first trip to Colorado, that prairie dogs were some sort of joke animal named so as to confuse visiting Southerners.\u00a0 But let me assure you, as I assured her: prairie dogs ARE a real thing.\u00a0 And now that we have that established, here\u2019s a fun fact about prairie dogs for ya…they CLIMB.\u00a0 THEY CLIMB!\u00a0 THEY FRICKIN\u2019 CLIMB<\/em><\/strong>!!!<\/p>\n

RUN!!!<\/strong>\u00a0 RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!!!!!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

GOD SAVE US ALL\u2026<\/strong>PRAIRIE DOGS CLIMB<\/span>!!!! <\/strong><\/p>\n

How do I know this?\u00a0 Because I saw it with my own two eyes…<\/p>\n

It all started with my phone call to the next door neighbor, \u201cHi.\u00a0 Our\u00a0dog just cornered what appears to be a sick-and-dying prairie dog in our back yard.\u00a0 But I have to run the kids to tennis practice so I can\u2019t deal with it right now.\u00a0 Would you be able to make it \u2018go away\u2019 while I\u2019m gone?\u00a0 Yeah??\u00a0 You\u2019ll do that for me?!\u00a0 As soon as you borrow the air rifle from the other neighbor??\u00a0 Sounds good.\u00a0 Thanks!\u201d<\/p>\n

As a side note, if you don\u2019t have a neighbor like that, you should totally get one.\u00a0 And also get one of those ones with the air rifle too.<\/p>\n

But when I got back home from tennis practice drop off, Good Neighbor was poking around in all the corners of my back yard, air rifle in hand, no prairie dog in sight.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re looking at eachother, totally puzzled, when Air Rifle Lender Neighbor calls from the other side of the fence, \u201cIt\u2019s over here!\u00a0 It just climbed the fence and it\u2019s on Good Neighbor\u2019s back porch!!\u201d<\/p>\n

Climbed?!\u00a0 CLIMBED?!?\u00a0 Oh, gugguggug.\u00a0 This isn\u2019t gonna go well.<\/em><\/p>\n

And sho\u2019 nuff.\u00a0 It didn\u2019t go well.\u00a0 By the time Good Neighbor\u00a0and I got around the fence to his yard, we saw the prairie dog running across the patio and CLIMBING up the side of his\u00a0house.\u00a0 When it reached the back porch light, it just perched there looking at us.<\/p>\n

CLIMBED?!?\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n

And then the wild west shoot out commenced.\u00a0 \u2018Ceptin that dadgum varmint wouldn\u2019t quit already.\u00a0 It kept risin up, doin its best zombie apocalypse rendition.<\/p>\n

gugguggugGUG!\u00a0 NOT.\u00a0 GOING.\u00a0 WELL.\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n

PETA please don\u2019t come get me.\u00a0 I just stood there shuddering and looking away and most likely getting bubonic plague in my open mouth.<\/p>\n

Oh, that reminds me, here\u2019s another fun fact about prairie dogs for ya\u2026they carry bubonic plague.<\/p>\n
