No??<\/em>\u00a0 This is incredibly puzzling because Hap Palmer wrote the biggest bunch of crazy-making ear-wormish toddler songs that ever existed.\u00a0 How could you NOT have heard of him?!<\/p>\n Hap\u2019s \u201cBaby Songs\u201d music video factory was slightly ahead of the Baby Einstein video curve.\u00a0 Quite possibly even earlier than that, say at the dawn of VHS camcorders (early 80\u2019s or so).\u00a0 How do I know this?\u00a0 Because most of the footage was home-movie quality and shot in someone\u2019s backyard.\u00a0 In addition, the videos starred a bunch of kids dressed in primary colors – a passel of Caillous from up north, if you will \u2013 with hearts embroidered into their extremely shapeless Osh K\u2019osh overalls.<\/p>\n Also?\u00a0 The mom in the music video who\u2019s dropping her anxious kid off at daycare had a headful of dreadful permed hair and a massively shoulder-padded Fashion Bug blazer.\u00a0 All further evidence of the 80\u2019s timeframe.\u00a0 (For those in the know, you\u2019ll recall this as being the award-winning \u201cMy Mommy Comes Back to Get Me\u201d video.*)<\/p>\n But what I really wanted to talk about here was Hap\u2019s song titled, \u201cIt\u2019s Gettin\u2019 Up Time.\u201d<\/p>\n [now singing from memory] Baby\u2019s cryin\u2019 in the bassinet.\u00a0 Waking up hungry, cold and wet.\u00a0 Waah, waah, waahwaahwaah.\u00a0 It\u2019s gettin up time!\u00a0 <\/em>(and yes, you must sing the waah, waah, waahwaahwaah<\/em> chorus like an open-mouthed, cranky baby.\u00a0 Who\u2019s hungry.\u00a0 Cold.\u00a0 And wet.)<\/p>\n This?\u00a0 Is how I wake my kids up in the morning before school.\u00a0 I lovingly sing that song into their sleep-warmed cheeks, while they\u2019re still abed, making sure I pull out all the stops on the waah, waah, waahwaahwaah<\/em> part.\u00a0 And when I say things like \u201copen-mouthed\u201d and \u201cinto their sleep-warmed cheeks\u201d what I really mean is open-mouthed ON their cheeks.\u00a0 So their cheeks get all\u2026moist\u2026from the open-mouthed waah, waah, waahing<\/em>.<\/p>\n Once more.\u00a0 Altogether!\u00a0 Nice and loud!!\u00a0 Waah, waah, waahwaahwaaaaaah.\u00a0 It\u2019s gettin up time!!!<\/em><\/p>\n See?\u00a0 You\u2019re awake now too.<\/p>\n *I don\u2019t think it ever even OCCURRED to my kids that it was a remote\u00a0POSSIBILITY that I might not come back to get them after I dropped them off at daycare\u2026until they saw Hap\u2019s big MTV music video on the topic.\u00a0 Thanks, Hap.\u00a0 Thanks for so, so many things.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" By a show of hands, who\u2019s familiar with Hap Palmer\u2019s musical works?
