{"id":4223,"date":"2015-05-09T09:04:18","date_gmt":"2015-05-09T15:04:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newstayathomemom.com\/?p=4223"},"modified":"2015-05-09T09:04:18","modified_gmt":"2015-05-09T15:04:18","slug":"a-dogs-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newstayathomemom.com\/?p=4223","title":{"rendered":"A Dog&#8217;s Life"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Seated around the dinner table is a charming family-of-four.\u00a0 Their scruffy but adorable dog is sitting in his bed in the corner of the room.\u00a0 Chinese takeout containers are scattered across the table.\u00a0 A scintillating conversation is underway.\u00a0 Shhhhh!\u00a0 Let\u2019s listen in\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Son (while glancing at the dog seated silently in his bed awaiting any chicken-y tidbits anyone\u2026anyone\u2026anyone wants to toss his way) says: <em>I wonder what the dog thinks about all day.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Loving-not-to-mention-funny-and-pretty-mother-everyone-says-so (who desperately wanted Sonny to design a study around whether dogs could see colors for his Science Fair Project and is still smarting from the fact that he ended up going with \u201chow quickly a sugar cube dissolves in a variety of sodas\u201d and if we\u2019re being truthful, he chose that particular experiment not to further the scientific body of knowledge, but mostly because he wanted to drink the sodas after the experiment was over) replies with: <em>Hmmm.\u00a0 That\u2019s an interesting question. \u00a0How could you design an experiment to discover that?\u00a0 I\u2019m thinking something around remote observation\u2026 <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Hubby interjects: <em>Hey, I know what you could do.\u00a0 Teach the dog to write.\u00a0 Then give him a piece of paper and pencil and ask him to write what he thinks about all day.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Sonny (throwing the stink eye his father\u2019s way.\u00a0 This has been a point of contention all along: that the dog is \u201clucky\u201d and doesn\u2019t have to go to school, while Sonny does have to suffer this daily torture with the pencils and paper and such) responds:\u00a0 <em>You know it\u2019s been proven that dogs have souls!!?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Sissy lending her insight to the conversation:\u00a0 <em>Oh yeah?\u00a0 Who proved it??\u00a0 Yo-yo Boy*?!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Sonny:\u00a0 <em>No!\u00a0 Pope FRANCIS!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>-Silence ensues.\u00a0 Everyone knows Pope Francis didn\u2019t \u201cprove\u201d that thing about the dogs.\u00a0 But all joking aside, the realization dawns on the happy group seated at the table that despite how many times Hubby calls Sonny by the dog\u2019s name and vice versa, and despite how they\u00a0joke about the boy and the dog being almost one and the same, the son draws WAY more parallels to the dog\u2019s life his own self than the family\u00a0ever could.\u00a0 See how he worries what the dog thinks about all day?\u00a0 See how he&#8217;s preoccupied with\u00a0the question of the dog\u2019s soul?-<\/p>\n<p>The Loving-not-to-mention-funny-and-pretty-mother-everyone-says-so sees the true heart of the matter and in her wise and insightful way closes the conversation with:\u00a0 <em>It seems to me that the dog probably thinks about the same stuff YOU think about all day, Sonny.\u00a0 He probably\u00a0thinks about what\u2019s for dinner and will any friends show up soon.\u00a0 He also probably thinks about when he&#8217;s gonna\u00a0go outside next, and where <a href=\"http:\/\/newstayathomemom.com\/cotillion-academy\/\">he\u2019s gonna pee once he gets there<\/a>.\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n<p>[End Scene]<\/p>\n<p><strong>The camera pans away from the family as they move out of range of the soft glow of the overhead light.\u00a0 The camera zooms in on the dog\u2019s face.\u00a0 The dog is still seated in his bed long after the family has cleared away their dinner.\u00a0 Still there, hoping for some chicken-y tidbits to come his way.\u00a0 Or any of the breakfast meats would be good too.\u00a0 Bacon, sausage, ham.\u00a0 Anyone\u2026anyone\u2026anyone\u2026.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>*Yo-yo Boy is a pseudonym for Sonny\u2019s bestie.\u00a0 He got Sonny into yo-yo\u2019ing, and he typically has some developed opinion on things.\u00a0 Except when we get to hear about his opinion second-hand through Sonny, things always seem a bit\u2026er\u2026lost in translation, shall we say?\u00a0 And you understand that we don\u2019t actually CALL him Yo-yo Boy when referring to him in casual conversation amongst ourselves or to his face;
