{"id":396,"date":"2012-11-14T13:46:12","date_gmt":"2012-11-14T20:46:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newstayathomemom.com\/?p=396"},"modified":"2013-02-06T12:55:20","modified_gmt":"2013-02-06T19:55:20","slug":"wednesday-week-13","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newstayathomemom.com\/?p=396","title":{"rendered":"Tight (part 1)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I felt like my mother the other day.\u00a0 (Hi, Mom!)<\/p>\n<p>After chairing the kids&#8217; school fundraiser for the previous 3 years, I took a minor supporting role and just spearheaded\u00a0the registration committee.\u00a0 In addition to table seating arrangements (pain in my a$$!) I was also in charge of the crew that checked-in attendees\u00a0the night of the event.<\/p>\n<p>Because I was going to be working for a good portion of the event&#8230;and because I don&#8217;t have a job and therefore don&#8217;t have the money to spend on a lousy $75-a-head dinner&#8230;my husband and I didn&#8217;t actually attend the event this year.\u00a0\u00a0And I gotta say &#8211; it&#8217;s pretty liberating not going to the annual fundraiser after six years of consistent attendance!<\/p>\n<p>Working registration is in some ways the best of both worlds.\u00a0 You get to see and be seen and say hi to all the people.\u00a0 You get to wear something cute, but not too dressy &#8217;cause you&#8217;re not actually attending the event.\u00a0 (I wore a super cute jacket that I got lots of compliments on, along with a black skirt, high-heeled boots and damask mesh stockings.\u00a0 Dressy, not too dressy and warm enough\u00a0for a snowy Colorado November evening.)\u00a0 And you get to\u00a0play the part of the hostess with the mostess as you hand out drink tickets.\u00a0\u00a0But then you get to leave after your shift and your free\u00a0pizza-for-the-workers meal without having engaged in any of the frantic spending o&#8217; the green!<\/p>\n<p>And it was as I departed the venue that I felt like my mother.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s this long hall you have to walk down in order to get to the parking garage&#8230;and this dude came up quickly behind me on the way to his car.\u00a0 As he passed me he said, &#8220;I love your stockings.\u00a0 They&#8217;re totally tight!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I said thanks and we both went on our way&#8230;but the whole time in my head I&#8217;m thinking to myself, &#8220;Tight?!\u00a0 Tight.\u00a0 Did he mean they&#8217;re tights??\u00a0 But he said stockings, so he knows they&#8217;re not tights.\u00a0 What does tight mean??\u00a0 Tight must mean cool.\u00a0 I&#8217;m HOPING tight means cool!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>How did I get to the point where I don&#8217;t know the modern lexicon?!\u00a0 This is\u00a0why I felt like my mother.<\/p>\n<p>When I was younger, my mother was always\u00a0asking my father to explain terms to her (oftentimes\u00a0during movies and usually for super embarrassing phrases,\u00a0to which my dad would always reply &#8220;I&#8217;ll tell you later, dear.&#8221;).\u00a0 As if my dad existed in some alternate universe where he was exposed to all the super cool new phraseology.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not\u00a0really sure\u00a0what the actual thinking was on my mom&#8217;s part about why my father would know words that she didn&#8217;t (&#8217;cause he had a job??)&#8230;but we&#8217;ll see if it works for me:\u00a0 Dad &#8211; what does &#8220;tight&#8221; mean?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I felt like my mother the other day.\u00a0 (Hi, Mom!)
