BTW – did I tell you that I’m a knitter\u00a0now?\u00a0 I’m making some\u00a0of my Christmas gifts because I have less money and more TIME nowadays.\u00a0 But right now I’m exclusively\u00a0working on gifts for women (Mom\/Sisters\/Friends – act surprised when you get your knitted Christmas gift from me.\u00a0 What could it be?\u00a0 What could it be?!).\u00a0 Because that’s the irony of homemade gifts.\u00a0 They’re mostly for women.\u00a0 Made by women.<\/p>\n
It’s hard to find gifts-you-can-make for men.\u00a0 But I have an idea and I have\u00a0my eye on a\u00a0loom at the fabric\u00a0store that will allow me to make gigantic men socks for Father\/Husband\/Brother for Christmas.\u00a0 (Guys – you act surprised too!)<\/p>\n
And lucky day!\u00a0 I have a\u00a0Veteran’s Day coupon\u00a0good for 60% off one\u00a0regularly priced item at\u00a0Jo-Ann Fabrics (I’m a Preferred Customer naturally).\u00a0 Loom here I come!<\/p>\n
So I…along with all of the other crafters in the Western Hemisphere…were at Jo-Ann’s today using our 60% off coupons.<\/p>\n
Is it just me, or do all\u00a0the other crafters seem to be\u00a0wackiest of\u00a0wackadoodles?!\u00a0 These women actually KNOW what all those weird, reminiscent-of-torture-device knitting needles are actually FOR!\u00a0 Which is something to be admired.\u00a0 But it’s the\u00a0greasy hair and absolutely no fashion sense (ill-fitting dark velour\u00a0sweatsuit sprinkled with dandruff and cat hairs anyone?) that has me concerned.\u00a0 Oh!\u00a0 And the fact that they’re all\u00a0a good\u00a020 years older than I.\u00a0\u00a0Not a man in sight.\u00a0 Surprise, surprise.<\/p>\n
Is this what my future holds?\u00a0 20 years from now, will I have stopped dyeing my hair (and washing it?\u00a0 Thin AND greasy??\u00a0 One or the other, Ladies.\u00a0 We don’t need both)?\u00a0 And stopped dressing like I care??<\/p>\n
I care now!\u00a0 And even for a trip to the fabric store where I knew it would be just\u00a0us gals, I was dressed super cute –\u00a0gold dangly earrings and jeans tucked into boots I’ve gotten tons of compliments on because they have a Ralph Lauren brown edging\u00a0on the top of the black quilted leather (can you say Kohl’s 30% off coupon combined with\u00a0Kohl’s cash?\u00a0 Score!!) along with a deep purple, slouchy shirt with\u00a0a gold colored rose-shaped applique all down one arm and on\u00a0left hand side of it.\u00a0\u00a0Totally cute, right?<\/p>\n
But THEY were looking at ME like I<\/em> was the wackadoodle.\u00a0 Was it because\u00a0they were all stunned by my beauty and the memory of what it was like\u00a0to be\u00a0a\u00a0fresh-faced, enthusiastic crafter with a coupon?!\u00a0\u00a0Or were they trying to figure out where I got the gold rose applique and how I ironed it on to my shirt?!? \u00a0(psst!\u00a0 I bought it this way.\u00a0 At a boutique.\u00a0 Back when I had money.\u00a0 Are you kidding me?\u00a0 You’d never find something like this at a craft store!)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" I have seen my future…and I am frightened.
