After I bounced\u00a0the kids out of the basement yesterday, they continued their rowdy game of Blind Man\u2019s Bluff in the backyard.<\/span><\/p>\n

Basically, the game was about who could yell loudest while\u00a0cheating all without getting caught by a blind person.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>And when it wasn\u2019t about that, it was about who could wear their bandana blindfold on their head in the most intimidating Bloods and\u00a0Crips way.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

You know what all that reminded me of?<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>A team building exercise I was subjected to back when I had a job.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>And no, I don\u2019t have another one yet, but thanks for asking!<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/em><\/span>stink eye, stink eye<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

We had meetings all morning long.\u00a0 Then\u00a0in the afternoon, we were told to change into sneakers and hightail it to a rendezvous place in the woods located somewhere on the \u201ccampus\u201d of Company HQ.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>[For those who don\u2019t know, \u201cRendezvous place in the woods\u201d is French for, \u201cDoes anyone else hear \u2018Dueling Banjos\u2019 playing in their head?!\u201d]<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

All scary movies aside, thanks for the awesome tip about the sneakers.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>How do you think my black pantsuit looks out here amongst the July humidity?<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>And aaaaaccck!<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Was that a spider or a trickle of sweat?!??<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Phew!<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Just sweat. <\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Upon arrival in the woods, we were met by a representative of our own company whose JOB it was to conduct team building exercises!<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>This is an actual JOB?<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>And you roll up under the Fitness Center hierarchy??<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>What exactly is this \u201cexercise\u201d going to involve?!<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>If we have to do a ropes course or fall back into eachother’s arms, I\u2019m out.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Also?<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>If we have to change into swimsuits for some wicky-wacky canoe races in the company pool, I\u2019ve already done that \u2013 <\/span><\/em>and I\u2019m not EVEN joking about that <\/span>\u2013 so I\u2019m out as out can be.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>A person should only be required to do that\u00a0“swimsuit in front of co-workers” thing once in their life\u2026if at all. <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

But no swimsuits required for this mission.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Instead, we split into two teams and after some verbal warm-ups (ex: \u201cTwo Truths and a Lie\u201d where you tell the group two truths about yourself and one lie and they have to guess which is which – ugh) we move into more physical Three Stooges territory with activities like \u201cWhich team can pass the rubber chicken through everyone\u2019s hands the fastest.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>And I\u2019m not even joking about that one.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Hint: Have someone hold the rubber chicken at the top of a \u201ctunnel\u201d of hands formed by the rest of the team, then let it go.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>As gravity does its work, it passes through everyone\u2019s hands and is caught at the bottom by some poor, crouching co-worker.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Fast, right?<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Winner, winner (rubber) chicken dinner!<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Finally the adventure culminates with all of us having to move further into the woods and out of sight-distance from each other while one team member is left behind to be blindfolded, given a cigarette and shot by a firing squad.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Kidding.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Totally kidding.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Well, at least about the cigarette and firing squad.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>But there is a blindfolded co-worker.<\/span><\/em>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>And then we have to regroup at the site of the blindfolded co-worker without using any verbal clues.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Clapping!<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>CLAPPING!!<\/span>\u00a0 Clap, clap, clapclapclap!\u00a0 <\/span>But the OTHER team is drawn to OUR team’s clapping.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Oh, ho, ho.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Isn\u2019t that a gas?!??<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Soooo fun and team build-ish.<\/span><\/em>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Eventually we\u2019re all reunited with our assigned\u00a0blindfolded person who then has to put us in order-of-birth-month <\/span>I\u2019m not even joking about that.<\/span><\/em>\u00a0 <\/span>But since they can\u2019t SEE, and we can’t TALK, we have to press Helen Keller symbols into their hand.\u00a0 W-A-T-E-R<\/span><\/em><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Once we’re all lined up like a bunch of sweaty January-through-December\u00a0schmucks,\u00a0it\u2019s all over and we\u2019re allowed to go eating and drinking together.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Now THAT?<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>That eating and drinking thing??\u00a0 THAT\u2019S my idea of team building.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>And I\u2019m not even joking about that.<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
