I was at a gas station the other day \u2013 deciding which arm and leg to hand over this time.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>(Come on!<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>You have to agree that gas is soooo expensive.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Remember way back in the early 90\u2019s when we had our Chrysler LeBaron convertibles and it only cost us a whopping $10 to fill the tank completely up?!<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>That\u2019s what I\u2019m talkin\u2019 \u2018bout.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Remember that?<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>And remember how we didn\u2019t care what the temperature was?<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>We were in a convertible!<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>So if it meant we put the top down but kept all the windows rolled up and the heater blasting, then that\u2019s what we had to do.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>And remember that one time we left the top down overnight and it rained into the car and come the next morning we couldn’t deal with the stupid mess so we took our sister\u2019s car to work and left her with a sopping wet car to take to school??<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Wasn\u2019t that so creative what she did with the beach towel?!<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Ohhhhhh, weren\u2019t those convertible days\u00a0FUN?!?<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Hey.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Wait.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>I see what you were trying to do there; You were trying to distract me from the price of gas with all of our fun convertible memories.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Nuthin\u2019 doin\u2019.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Movin\u2019 on\u2026)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019m staring at the digital readout at the gas pump which indicates I am purchasing upwards of fifty THOUSAND dollars\u2019 worth of gas when two guys in a white, unmarked pickup truck pull in.<\/span><\/p>\n

They\u2019re wearing polo shirts and khakis and they approach the pump I\u2019m at, but from the other side.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>On foot.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>iPhone cameras clicking away.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

No…that’s not disturbing or suspicious at all, ya Weirdos.<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

So I say, \u201cHey!<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Are you guys somehow stealing my credit card information with your phones?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

They don\u2019t say anything, they just laugh.<\/span><\/p>\n

So then I say, \u201cHa, ha, ha.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>I noticed you just laughed.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>And didn\u2019t actually SAY that you weren\u2019t stealing my credit card information.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>You gotta put it out there.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Let the criminals know you\u2019re on to them.<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Sensing I\u2019m kindof hoping we’re all just joking about the credit card stealing, one guy replies, \u201cYes, we\u2019re taking pictures of your credit card information.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>It\u00a0makes it easier to remember that way.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Good point.\u00a0 Hardy, har, har.<\/span><\/em>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Immediately afterwards the other guy says, \u201cActually we work for Coca-Cola.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>We\u2019re just taking pictures of our latest advertisement.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Hmmmm\u2026sure.\u00a0 Because the advertisement above MY side of the pump is talking about how you can buy three candy bars inside for $2.00.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

So then the guys come around my side of the pump and exclaim, \u201cOh!<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>You don\u2019t have one over here.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

So then I go to their side of the pump and exclaim, \u201cOh!<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Look.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>There\u2019s a coke advertisement over here.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>We should get a picture of it.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Aren’t we all so funny?\u00a0 And I’m glad we were just joking about the credit card stealing.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

We\u00a0walk away chuckling.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>The end.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

But beware of men\u00a0in unmarked cars taking pictures of your credit card with their iPhones at the gas station.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>They may not always be Coca-Cola Mad Men.\u00a0 My mother would want me to warn you of this.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
