Sonny was spouting fun facts as we were\u00a0milling around the kitchen this morning.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>The kids and hubby were putting on coats, collecting backpacks and\u00a0in general, getting ready to walk out the door and into their life.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

And lil ol’ me?!<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>I was drinking coffee in my p.j.\u2019s and doling out goodbye kisses.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Welcome to MY life!<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019mmmm sittin\u2019 in the lap!<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Sittin\u2019 in the lap of luxury!<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Sittin\u2019 in the lap\u2026*<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s right about this time that Sonny states, \u201cYou know, there\u2019s a NINTH wonder of the world.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s \u2013 THE WORLD!\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

To which, Sissy replies, \u201cUhhhh, wouldn\u2019t the FIRST wonder of the world be \u2013 THE WORLD?!?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Good point.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Especially if we\u2019re ranking wonders by order-of-astounding.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>But NINE Wonders of the World, huh?<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>So I say out loud, <\/span><\/em>\u201cWhat exactly ARE these Nine Wonders, Buddy?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

He starts itemizing, \u201cThe Grand Canyon\u2026\u201d<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>This clearly is top of mind since we were just there.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>\u2018Cept I call it Scary Canyon <\/span>http:\/\/newstayathomemom.com\/?p=3041<\/span><\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>And if you thought \u201cgrand\u201d was a misnomer, \u201cwonder\u201d would have to be one too.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Wonder implies your eyes get round and your mouth forms an \u201cO.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>My bowels just turn to water; Wonder my a$$!<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

But he continues, \u201c\u2026the pyramids, Niagara Falls, Mount Everest\u2026\u201d<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>And then?<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>It goes wonky.<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026this volcano thing, a golden room somewhere\u2026\u201d<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Hmmm, I am not familiar with these items.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>A golden room somewhere??<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>That doesn\u2019t sound quite specific enough.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Or even right.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>And I think some wonder lists have gotten combined here.<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026and a coupla other things.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Well, a coupla other things and THE WORLD, of course.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Let\u2019s not forget that.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Also?<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>A \u201ccoupla other things\u201d sounds pretty vague.<\/span>\u00a0 I’m no expert or anything, but\u00a0<\/span>if you count backwards and include THE WORLD, then we\u2019re really at EIGHT Wonders of the World.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>And Sonny said there were NINE.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>So a \u201ccoupla other things\u201d would really be just ONE other thing, right?<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>And what would that ONE other thing be?!<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Unless, of course, it’s really EIGHT Wonders of the World.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Or maybe even SEVEN Wonders of the World??<\/span>\u00a0 If we subtract out THE WORLD (<\/span>because I don\u2019t think THE WORLD counts as a WONDER of THE WORLD, b<\/span>ut I could be wrong), then we’re at SEVEN.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

And\u00a0now?<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Now it\u2019s gotten confusing.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Because really??<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Really, when you get right down to brass tacks, all of these lists are just math\u00a0masquerading as wonders.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

And you know what math means, don’t you<\/span><\/span>?!?<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>PEACE OUT!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

*Why yes, those are the lyrics from \u201cSittin\u2019 in the Lap of Luxury\u201d released in 1990 by Louie, Louie.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Now, I know that on the surface, this does not look like a winning entry in the \u201c80\u2019s Song For Every Moment In Life\u201d game we have so much fun playing together.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>But how \u2018bout if I told you Louie, Louie (Louis Cordero) used to tour with Erasure?<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>80\u2019s much?<\/span><\/em>\u00a0 <\/span>And what if I told you he appeared on the Arsenio Hall show TWICE during the first year of the show\u2019s debut??<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Totally 80\u2019s!<\/span><\/em>\u00a0 <\/span>And that he played Madonna\u2019s boyfriend in the\u00a0music video for her “Borderline” song?!?<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Come on!<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>That\u2019s quintesSENTIAL\u00a080\u2019s!<\/span><\/em>\u00a0 <\/span>Then you would know that a master is at work here.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>And that the whole thing practically screams eighties with a capital EIGHT!<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>And then you would concede that I have won another round in this game.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>And that I am truly winner, winner chicken dinner!<\/span>\u00a0 But all this talk of EIGHT reminds me too much of the talk of NINE and also SEVEN.\u00a0 Which still means…<\/span>PEACE OUT!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
