School year\u2019s almost over.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Ya know how I can tell?<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Sissy has started reading an Agatha Christie murder mystery in literature class.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Really?!<\/span><\/em>\u00a0<\/em> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I mean\u2026it\u2019s not as bad as if she were reading old Archie comic books, but it almost is.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[Agatha Christie fans, please do not contact me.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019m just funnin\u2019 with ya.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Ms. Christie was a quality writer who demonstrated great insight into the murderous human psyche.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>But really, what she has to do with sixth grade lit class, I just don\u2019t know.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>As for the Archie comic books fans?<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>You also should not contact me.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>But in your case, I\u2019m totally serious; that stuff was crap.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>And that part where Archie started dating Josie from Josie and the Pussycats?<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Barf.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Jump the shark much?<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>And a way better\u00a0title for that comic book series would have been, \u201cBoy gingers don\u2019t make good comic book heroes.\u201d]<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Anywho.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>The title of the book Sissy is reading is, \u201cAnd Then There Were None.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>When she got home from school today, she was so excited about it that she had to read the opening poem to me.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>It’s\u00a0about ten soldier boys.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Something happens to each one along the way\u2026 AND THEN (eventually) THERE WERE NONE!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Me to Sissy:\u00a0 Huhn.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>You know what\u2019s weird about that?<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Back when I was your age, I remember the poem being about Indians.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>In fact, I remember the book being called something else.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Something like, \u201cTen Little Indians.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>But I suppose that\u2019s not politically correct anymore.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Sissy, acting surprised that I actually know sh*t about sh*t, explained that yes, the\u00a0book\u00a0was\u00a0called \u201cTen Little Indians\u201d at one point.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>But prior to THAT, the poem it was based on was originally\u00a0called \u201cTen Little Niggers.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Ok.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>That veered waaaaaay south.<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

And again, I say unto you, what does any of this have to do with sixth grade lit class?<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cTen Little NIGGERS?!??\u201d<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Holy Politically Incorrect, Batman!<\/span><\/em>\u00a0<\/em> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

But speaking of Agatha Christie, does anyone else remember, as a tween, sitting at the kitchen table listening to their two older sisters argue about a DIFFERENT Agatha Christie book, \u201cThe Murder of Roger Ackroyd?\u201d<\/span>\u00a0 Remember how o<\/span>ne sister blurted out that the narrator did it \u2013 and effectively ruined the entire book for not only the sister she had been quarreling with, but also the sweet, kind, loving (not to mention totally cute-as-a-button) tween sister sitting at the kitchen table?!?!! <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

No?<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>You don\u2019t remember any of that?!?<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Hmmm.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>You must have completely forgotten about it just like your mother said you would after she came to smooth over the ruined-Agatha-Christie-book-situation between your older sisters.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
