{"id":31,"date":"2012-08-28T14:36:55","date_gmt":"2012-08-28T14:36:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newstayathomemom.com\/?p=31"},"modified":"2013-02-06T12:02:44","modified_gmt":"2013-02-06T19:02:44","slug":"tuesday-week-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newstayathomemom.com\/?p=31","title":{"rendered":"What to do, what to do?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I used to be Queen of the mile-long-to-do list.\u00a0 But today I have nothing to do.\u00a0 It&#8217;s 7:45 a.m. and I just got done doing\u00a0the dinner dishes from last night.\u00a0\u00a0The dinner dishes were the\u00a0one-and-only pressing thing on my calendar today.<\/p>\n<p>(Side note &#8211;\u00a0I always seem to be a bit late to the party with the dishes, doing the dinner ones in the a.m. But that&#8217;s mostly because after dinner, the a.m. ones still haven&#8217;t cleared out of the dishwasher.\u00a0 That&#8217;s weird.\u00a0\u00a0The dishwasher <em>used <\/em>to be of the magical variety, with stuff automatically appearing and disappearing from it quite frequently.\u00a0 But that also might have been because\u00a0my husband was\u00a0in charge of the\u00a0dishes.\u00a0\u00a0There\u00a0was some unspoken division of labor there when I was working.\u00a0 I would buy all the food, plan all the meals, cook all the meals and he would do the dishes.\u00a0\u00a0A totally fair split, right?\u00a0 Yep &#8211; totally fair.\u00a0 But now that I&#8217;m NOT working,\u00a0I do all that stuff AND I do the dishes.\u00a0\u00a0We haven&#8217;t actually talked about it [that being the rule of unspoken rules, not to speak about them that is],\u00a0but that seems to be the way things are headed.\u00a0 And like I said, I&#8217;m always late to the dish party.\u00a0 And they no longer magically do themselves.\u00a0\u00a0Only now there&#8217;s\u00a0no one to yell at about it.\u00a0 Except\u00a0myself.\u00a0 And that would seem unbalanced.\u00a0 So I refrain.)<\/p>\n<p>Anywho &#8211;\u00a0I guess I&#8217;ll look for jobs this morning.\u00a0 I promised\u00a0the Unemployment Agency I would (and I have been, trust me).\u00a0 It&#8217;s just that now I remember I need to get a new pair of sneakers today.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been meaning to and when I went running yesterday my foot hurt and I was reminded why I need a new pair.\u00a0 So I really must do that today because I&#8217;m planning on going running tomorrow and it would be fun plus\u00a0something to look forward to if I had a new pair of sneakers to wear!<\/p>\n<p>And I also have to find my exercise watch.\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t go running outside yesterday even though it was gorgeous because I couldn&#8217;t find my watch.\u00a0 Naturally I don&#8217;t want to run any\u00a0farther or longer than I need to, so it&#8217;s necessary to wear\u00a0a watch to\u00a0know when to turn around and head home.\u00a0 On the treadmill in the basement, I can see both time and distance, so I&#8217;m golden.\u00a0\u00a0Also,\u00a0while I&#8217;m there, I\u00a0get to catch up with\u00a0Matt, Al, Natalie\u00a0and Savanna?\u00a0 What happened to Ann?!\u00a0 Boy,\u00a0I&#8217;m really out of touch.<\/p>\n<p>And you know what the little voice in my head has been saying to me\u00a0recently? Well in addition to\u00a0telling me I&#8217;m wasting my college degree &#8211; and my master&#8217;s degree??\u00a0\u00a0The little voice has been\u00a0telling me I should totally make a\u00a0batch of homemade cookies.\u00a0 My mother-in-law made a strawberry rhubarb pie this week-end and the kids inhaled it.\u00a0 The kids love homemade stuff like that but I never make it.<\/p>\n<p>My stay at home mom used to make homemade desserts for us all the time.\u00a0 But would set them on a ceramic plate and cover them with a metal cake cover.\u00a0 So that you could never lift the cover off the dessert without it accidentally banging into the plate and\u00a0making the whole effort sound\u00a0like a gong.\u00a0 Clearly some sort of dessert booby trap invented to keep her chuckling.\u00a0 Hey &#8211; when you&#8217;re a stay at home mom I guess you have to get your jollies where you can!\u00a0 But once the dessert gong would sound, she&#8217;d yell from wherever she was in the house, &#8220;get out of the cookies\/brownies\/fill in the blank!\u00a0 They&#8217;re for your father!!&#8221;\u00a0 But where there&#8217;s a will, there&#8217;s a way!\u00a0 And come dinner time, Dad would have about three cookies\/brownies\/fill in the blank left to enjoy.<\/p>\n<p>But back to me.\u00a0 For my homemade dessert foray, I&#8217;ll have to get eggs of course, and chocolate chips.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll start slow with a batch of chocolate chip cookies.\u00a0 No crazy out-of-my-depth combo pies for me (just yet).\u00a0 So now my day is looking up!\u00a0 Turns out I have LOTS to do!\u00a0 I have to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Get new sneakers<\/li>\n<li>Find my watch<\/li>\n<li>Get ingredients for cookies<\/li>\n<li>Bake cookies<\/li>\n<li>Do dishes from cookie extravaganza before dinner dishes happen again<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Oh wait!\u00a0 My son&#8217;s teacher literally just e-mailed.\u00a0 She wants to meet with me at 1:10 today.\u00a0 <em>What?!\u00a0<\/em> The first thought that occurs to me isn&#8217;t: <em>What did the little monkey do at the beginning of the second week of school that warrants a parent\/teacher meeting?<\/em>\u00a0 No.\u00a0 Back to me.\u00a0 My first thought is actually: <em>Does she think I&#8217;m just sitting here with an entirely free day at my disposal waiting for her email ??!\u00a0\u00a0Doesn&#8217;t she know I&#8217;m busy!?!<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I used to be Queen of the mile-long-to-do list.\u00a0 But today I have nothing to do.\u00a0 It&#8217;s 7:45 a.m. and I just got done doing\u00a0the dinner dishes from last night.\u00a0\u00a0The dinner dishes were the\u00a0one-and-only pressing thing on my calendar today.
