We Catholics do this fun thing the week before Easter.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>We put on a play.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

But I somehow miss that Palm Sunday casting call every year, so I\u2019m stuck in the General Ensemble with the rest of the rabble-rousers.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>The priest, on the other hand, always gets the leading role.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>(I suspect it\u2019s because he\u2019s the only one who can pronounce <\/span>Eloi Eloi lama sabachthani.)<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Anyway, the rabble-rousers have to shout horrible things at the priest-playing-Jesus like, \u201cCrucify him!\u201d and \u201cGive us Barabbas!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s just dreadful.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>And I feel so awful doing it, that I read the lines straight.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>No emotion, no nuthin\u2019.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>But there\u2019s always a few in the crowd who get a liiiiiittle too into it.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Uh\u2026we\u2019re working for free here, so settle down.<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

That sort of thing goes on for a good long while.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s a regular adventure \u2013 complete with swordplay, roosters crowing (glad I didn\u2019t get\u00a0THAT part) and\u00a0some business about 30 silver shekels and a potter’s field (glad I didn\u2019t get\u00a0THAT part either!).\u00a0 Then\u00a0darkness covers the land.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>The crucifixion we called for earlier has come to pass and a stone is rolled in front of Jesus’\u00a0tomb; Roman soldiers are set as guards.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

And?<\/span><\/p>\n

-END SCENE!-<\/span><\/p>\n

WHAT?!?<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

[sigh]<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

So frustrating.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>We never do end that scene on a high note even though we\u2019ve been putting on this play for a number of years now.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

How does it end?<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>HOW does it END<\/em>?!?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Nope.<\/span>\u00a0 You’re left\u00a0<\/span>hanging [bad Judas Iscariot pun, please disregard] and invited to come\u00a0back NEXT Sunday to find out how it ends.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

And that NEXT Sunday?<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>THAT\u2019S the best part.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>That\u2019s when the Easter Bunny comes and brings you candy.<\/span><\/p>\n

See?<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Isn\u2019t that the BEST?!!<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>YAY!<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>You have jelly beans now!<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>And chocolate!!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

And everyone\u2019s acting like no one heard anyone (including the overzealous wackjobs in the back) shouting, \u201cCRUCIFY HIM, CRUCIFY HIM!\u201d<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Like all of that has been forgiven or somethin’.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The only thing that could POSSIBLY\u00a0make Easter Sunday any better than it already is, is finding out how last week\u2019s play ends.<\/span><\/p>\n

***SPOILER ALERT!***Jesus rises from the dead.<\/span><\/p>\n

ALLELUIA!<\/span><\/p>\n
