Partying with Catholic Gradeschool Boys \u2013 during Lent \u2013 is a waaaay different proposition.\u00a0 They\u2019re the same barrel full o\u2019monkeys they always are, just with fewer activity and food\u00a0options.<\/span><\/p>\n

Me:\u00a0 Ok.\u00a0 Time for cake!\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Boy #1:\u00a0 Uhhh\u2026.I gave up sweets for Lent.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Boys 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6: You were just eating candy in the basement!\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Boy #1:\u00a0 Was I?\u00a0 I don\u2019t remember.<\/span><\/p>\n

Me: (in my head) Thank you, narcing monkeys, for so gently reminding Gave-up-Sweets that he lapsed.\u00a0 But now he\u2019s back on track, so no cake for him.\u00a0 And, it\u2019s my unsolicited opinion that “someone”\u00a0should focus a bit more on \u201cremembering\u201d and less on sweets for next year\u2019s Lent.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Me:\u00a0(out loud) Ok.\u00a0 Well\u2026no cake for you, I guess.\u00a0 At least come and sing Happy Birthday and you can have an apple.<\/span><\/p>\n

Me:\u00a0 Ok.\u00a0 Time to put in the movie!<\/span><\/p>\n

Boy #2:\u00a0 Uhhh\u2026I gave up movies for Lent.<\/span><\/p>\n

Me:\u00a0 Wow.\u00a0 Hmmmm.\u00a0 Ok.\u00a0 How about everyone goes up to Sonny\u2019s room to play Legos?!\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Boy #3:\u00a0 Uhhh\u2026I gave up Legos for Lent.<\/span><\/p>\n

Me:\u00a0 Wow.\u00a0 Hmmmm.\u00a0 Ok.\u00a0 First off, you guys are great and you\u2019re all going to Heaven.\u00a0 Now\u2026howz about you all sit in a circle in the basement and discuss your feelings?\u00a0 Slam!<\/em>\u00a0 [that was the basement door slamming \u2013 because at that point I just wanted more cake and some privacy while I did it.]<\/span><\/p>\n

The Feelings Circle quickly devolved into Sonny\u2019s School of Wrestling.\u00a0 The big tip-off was when Sissy \u2013 who was supposed to be my \u201ceyes and ears\u201d in the basement \u2013 came running upstairs to cut her nails.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Cut your nails?\u00a0 Wait?! \u00a0WHAT?!?\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Me:\u00a0 Ok!\u00a0 Everyone upstairs and outside.\u00a0 It\u2019s time to pick up the dog poop!\u00a0 I\u2019m sure no one gave THAT up for Lent, did they?!?<\/span><\/p>\n

Nothing says \u201cparty\u201d like a little poop pick-up session in the afternoon.\u00a0 Am I right?\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
