Wait!\u00a0 What?!\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

What just happened??<\/span><\/p>\n

I remember so vividly the day my son was born.\u00a0 And TODAY?\u00a0 He\u2019s TEN!\u00a0 (Actually, if you want to get all technical, today we are celebrating the END of his tenth year, which means that he\u2019s going INTO his eleventh year, even though he just turned ten.\u00a0 I know!\u00a0 My head just exploded too!!\u00a0 So let\u2019s stop with the math-y talk, already.)<\/span><\/p>\n

What happened?\u00a0 Where did the time go??\u00a0 From the day of his birth to today, I can remember exactly ONE thing\u2026the time he was learning to walk and pulled himself up INSIDE the bar stool at the kitchen island.\u00a0 Abbondanza, prison-for-one!!\u00a0 And just like that?\u00a0 Sonny could walk.\u00a0 Albeit only inside his tiny little cell.\u00a0 Which really had no room for walking or sitting; only standing.\u00a0 But whatever.\u00a0 It\u2019s a cute story, so don\u2019t bring me down.<\/span><\/p>\n

Also?\u00a0 I lied.\u00a0 I remember other stuff too.\u00a0 I\u2019m not THAT bad of a mother.\u00a0 Puh-lease!\u00a0 Remembering only ONE thing from my son\u2019s life?!\u00a0 Tell me what you REALLY think about my mothering skills.\u00a0 <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

For example, I remember yesterday.\u00a0 Yesterday was Birthday Celebration Number 1.\u00a0 (We have a tradition in my family where you make your birthday last as long as possible.\u00a0 So we\u2019re living up to\u00a0tradition here.)\u00a0 During BC#1, Sonny got to open his gifts from aunts, uncles, cousins\u00a0and grandparents.\u00a0 There wouldn’t have been time to do all of that this morning since it’s a school day, so we are also being practical with this multi-celebration approach.<\/span><\/p>\n

Anyway, one gift he got yesterday was a slime making kit.\u00a0 But on the cover, it shows two girls standing beside a waist-high cup, stirring something inside with a popsicle stick as tall as they are.\u00a0 Scattered around the experiment site are huge bottles as high as their heads.\u00a0 (Can you say \u201ctruth in advertising?\u201d) <\/span><\/p>\n

At a quick glance, all you could really see of the kit description was the wording above the girls\u2019 heads that said, \u201c100% kid approved science experiment kit.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

This visual extravaganza prompted Sonny to say,\u201d Oooh!\u00a0 What does it do?\u00a0 Shrink you down??!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

And there you have it.\u00a0 Why I love my son so much.\u00a0 And why I remember yesterday so well.\u00a0 Yesterday was a stunning example of my son\u2019s lifelong philosophy:\u00a0 All things are possible.\u00a0 Nothing is too far-fetched.\u00a0 And the fun never ends. <\/span><\/p>\n

He lives in a world where it could happen \u2013 where you could finally get that \u201cshrink you down to tiny size\u201d kit you\u2019ve been waiting for your whole life.\u00a0 And imagine the things you could do with a kit like that?!?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While\u00a0John Lennon went a bit over long with the \u201cbeautifuls,\u201d he had the right idea when he sang that song about his son, “B<\/span><\/span>eautiful Boy.”\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
