Hubby and I went to an 80\u2019s party this week-end.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

What did he wear?\u00a0 A pink polo layered over a turquoise polo (with both collars turned UP), and tan wide-wale corduroys.\u00a0 He topped the ensemble off with MASSIVE tortoiseshell glasses from the 80\u2019s.\u00a0 You\u00a0remember these glasses, don’t you?\u00a0\u00a0They were HUGE and ROUND.\u00a0 The lenses started in the middle of your forehead and extended all the way down to the corner of your mouth, practically.<\/span><\/p>\n

The glasses were actually mine.\u00a0 My original prescription glasses from the 80\u2019s.\u00a0 I let him borrow them because I\u2019m nice that way.\u00a0 And it was also as punishment because he didn\u2019t know about the whole layering-pastel-polos-over-each-other-with-both-collars-turned-UP.\u00a0 The trend was 30 years old, yet totally new to him.\u00a0 Bad boy!\u00a0 Bad, bad boy!\u00a0 How could you not know that?!?\u00a0 Now wear MASSIVE prepster glasses as penalty.<\/span><\/p>\n

And me?\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Let\u2019s just say my outfit was a take on Madonna from that era – black capri leggings, tutu-esque skirt, white tank underneath a\u00a0hot pink shirt that said, “Frankie say RELAX.”\u00a0\u00a0And was\u00a0mostly comprised of original 80\u2019s items: white triangular earrings, hot pink mesh glove, lace bow for my hair, looooong strands of fake pearls bought on an NYC street corner.\u00a0 \u2018Cause really\u2026why NOT keep that stuff for 30 years?\u00a0 They\u2019re jam-packed full o\u2019 memories, but they also come in handy at some point in the future.\u00a0 (See, Mom?\u00a0 And you wonder why I never throw anything away?!?)<\/span><\/p>\n

When we arrived at the party, my Swatch watch said 7:30.\u00a0 On the dot!\u00a0\u00a0 (YES!\u00a0 My SWATCH WATCH!!!\u00a0 How fun am I?!?\u00a0 Again, an 80\u2019s original.\u00a0 It has the one with the royal blue band and the semaphore-flags-in-place-of-numbers on the face.\u00a0 I know you wanted that watch when\u00a0you were my age, didn’t you.\u00a0 Do I ROCK or what?!?) <\/span><\/p>\n

Hubby & I proceeded to win the 80\u2019s trivia contest, natch.\u00a0 Lots of questions were focused on stupid sporting events and some political\u00a0blah-blah-blah.\u00a0 But since Hub is a baseball\/sports aficionado AND a poly sci major, we rocked that category.\u00a0 We agree that typically his is a deadly combination of interests when it comes to making casual chit-chat with the ladies, but it sure comes in handy when you\u2019re gunnin\u2019 for a do-it-yourself Jello Shot Kit.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

And what was my value add?!*\u00a0 Well\u2026first off, I looked CUTE!!!\u00a0 So that\u2019s something.\u00a0 And in fact another attendee even said I looked so young!!\u00a0 So that\u2019s something too.\u00a0 (I decided it was the HUGE white, lace bow on my head.\u00a0 That always makes a gal look young.\u00a0 In fact, as I\u2019m sitting here blogging, I\u2019m wearing it, and I do have to say it\u2019s put a pep in my step.\u00a0 Can you see me?\u00a0 Through that little camera at the top??\u00a0 Don\u2019t I look YOUNG?!?\u00a0 I know, right?\u00a0 Just wait until I go pick up the kids at school.\u00a0 EVERYONE\u2019S gonna be talking about the magical power of the white, lace bow on my head!\u00a0 Yipppeee!)\u00a0 So in addition to being CUTE, I\u2019m also FUN!\u00a0 In fact, my theme song is \u201cGirls Just Wanna Have Fun!\u201d\u00a0 While my theme song started back in the 80\u2019s, I\u2019ve found that if it\u2019s a good, quality theme song, it will hold true for many years.\u00a0 And yep!\u00a0 Here I am.\u00a0 Still fun!\u00a0 Er\u2026still wanting to have fun, at least.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sooo\u2026.where are we going with this?\u00a0 I\u2019ll mention “smart” here as well\u2026but\u2026oh yeah!\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\u00a0 My value-add in the trivia contest was in answering all of the more \u201csocial\u201d questions \u2013 anything pertaining to movies, songs, clothes, movies, songs, and songs.\u00a0 Oh!\u00a0 And the Fall of the Berlin Wall (November 1989.\u00a0 I was there!\u00a0 \u00a0Perhaps you remember me starring in the role of the girl chipping away at the Eastern Bloc with a butter knife \u201cborrowed\u201d from the youth hostel?? <\/span>http:\/\/newstayathomemom.com\/?p=2153<\/span><\/a> )<\/span><\/p>\n

Anywhooo\u2026Fuzzy Navels and White Wine Spritzers are just as terrible now as they were then, so once the regulars started showing up at the dive bar where this party was being held, we decided it was time to skidaddle.\u00a0 Hubby put on his massive-shoulder-padded leather bomber jacket.\u00a0 And I put on my massive-shoulder-padded full length jean coat.\u00a0 And we headed out. \u00a0But not before some twenty-something-dive-bar-regulars accosted us to tell us that we NAILED it!\u00a0 NAILED IT!!!\u00a0 Even down to the jackets.\u00a0 NAILED.\u00a0 IT.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hmmm\u2026thankyou, thankyouverymuch, People-who-weren\u2019t-even-alive-when-I-nailed-it-the-first-time-around.\u00a0 But I\u2019ll take your compliment.\u00a0 And for posterity\u2019s sake, I will note the time on my Swatch Watch.\u00a0 7:30.\u00a0 On the dot.<\/span><\/p>\n

* So you can truly understand the difference between me and Hubby \u2013 one of the trivia contest questions was: Who was Michael Dukakis\u2019 vice presidential running mate in the 1988 presidential election?\u00a0 The answer: Senator Lloyd Bentsen out of Texas \u2013 said in just that way by polo boy in the corner wearing the MASSIVE glasses.\u00a0 Now if someone had asked ME what was Dukakis\u2019 theme song?\u00a0 I coulda told them\u00a0it was \u201cAmerica\u201d by Neil Diamond.\u00a0 And then I could have sung the WHOLE FRICKIN\u2019 THING.\u00a0 We\u2019re comin\u2019 to America.\u00a0 Today!\u00a0 My country \u2018tis of thee!\u00a0 TODAY!\u00a0 Sweet land of liberty.\u00a0 TODAY!\u00a0 Of thee I sing.\u00a0 TODAY!\u00a0 Of thee I sing\u2026TODAY!!!\u00a0\u00a0<\/em>See??\u00a0 Fun, right?!?<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
