We went to see the play Annie yesterday.\u00a0 Coincidentally, yesterday was also the last day I could collect unemployment monies.*<\/span><\/p>\n

So\u2026naturally\u2026I mostly spent my time at the play wondering why Annie has SUCH terrible hair.\u00a0 I mean, it\u2019s really AWFUL.\u00a0 And that red dress she wears? \u00a0It clashes somethin\u2019 fierce with that mess on her noggin.\u00a0 (As a side note, my daughter used to think the word \u201cnoggin\u201d was a bad word.\u00a0 She knows better now.\u00a0 But naturally, this means that I need to use the word noggin whenever possible just to give her the willies!\u00a0 Because I\u2019m that much of a good mother.\u00a0 And speaking of ME!\u00a0 I used to think the word \u201cpeepers\u201d was a bad word.\u00a0 Jeepers, creepers, where\u2019d ya get them peepers!<\/em>\u00a0 See?!\u00a0 Why would you be shouting Jeepers\u2026creepers!…<\/em>if \u201cpeepers\u201d were something good that ya got?!?\u00a0 And while we\u2019re at it, where\u2019d ya get them EYES??)<\/span><\/p>\n

Anywhoooo\u2026that was a weird veer-off.\u00a0 But we\u2019re back on track.\u00a0 And yes, while the play is about that rascally, red-haired (whose hair is awful, just awful) Orphan Annie, it\u2019s also set in the Depression.\u00a0 With that sort of back-story, \u00a0it\u2019s no surprise there\u2019s this one scene where all these people are on the street corner drinking stone soup out of a garbage can.\u00a0 And they are pee-oh\u2019d!\u00a0 Really PISSED at Roosevelt, because they\u2019re jobless!\u00a0 And what he promised them was that chicken-in-every-pot, New Deal nonsense.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Yeah!\u00a0 New Deal my A$$!!!\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

Huh?!\u00a0 That was WEIRD!\u00a0 Given my OWN backstory, I felt like I was right there with \u2018em, in that scene.\u00a0 (Ok, maybe not RIGHT there with \u2018em\u2026but \u201cin spirit\u201d there with \u2018em, for sure-sies.\u00a0 \u201cThere but for the Grace of God go I with the stone soup out of a garbage can\u201d there with \u2018em.\u00a0 ‘Cause I\u2019ve had PUNCH out of a garbage can \u2013 and that\u2019s bad enough.\u00a0 Especially when you get to the bottom of the garbage can only to find there\u2019s a HOLE in the garbage can LINER!\u00a0 It almost makes you want to lose all of that punch you\u2019ve been working so hard on at the fraternity party.\u00a0 So, aside from the punch, I\u2019ve never had ANYTHING out of a garbage can, stone soup or otherwise.\u00a0 Again, Grace of God and so on and so forth.)<\/span><\/p>\n

In the midst of all of this angst and anger, Annie starts up with her cheery, positive attitude schmatitude.\u00a0 All \u201csun\u2019ll come out tomorrow\u201d blah, blah, blah.\u00a0\u00a0And then all the angry people on the street corner are singing along with her.\u00a0 And what\u2019s this??\u00a0 What do I hear?!?\u00a0 They\u2019re singing \u201cTomorrow is ONLY a day away!\u201d\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

What?\u00a0 WHAAAAAT???\u00a0<\/em> I always thought the words were \u201cTomorrow is ALWAYS a day away!\u201d\u00a0 Which I gotta say, is a bit demotivating.\u00a0 It\u2019s like, you can never…quite…get there.\u00a0 It\u2019s always just outta reach.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

But tomorrow being ONLY a day away?\u00a0 Now that\u2019s different.\u00a0 That\u2019s do-able.\u00a0 That\u2019s achievable.\u00a0 Just hang in there.\u00a0 All you\u00a0gotta do is hang on ’til tomorrow.\u00a0 Come what may.\u00a0\u00a0Because it\u2019s only a day away.<\/span><\/p>\n

Yeah – what THEY said!\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In fact?\u00a0 This is the approach I\u2019m going to take with my new job, and all the money I’ll be making shortly.\u00a0 It’s\u00a0just around the corner.\u00a0 I can feel it.\u00a0 Because?\u00a0 Well…it’s obvious, isn’t it?\u00a0 Because, tomorrow is\u00a0ONLY a daaaaay aaaaaaaaWAAAYYYYYYY [big finish, arms wide]<\/span><\/p>\n

And if not?\u00a0 Maybe Daddy Warbucks will adopt me.\u00a0\u00a0I\u2019d be willing to wear any crazy crap\u00a0on my head if he would.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

*Even though I have almost $5,000 left on my unemployment claim, I can\u2019t claim it after 12\/28\/13.\u00a0 Because the Federal Government says so, that\u2019s why.\u00a0 Hmmm\u2026really?\u00a0 Really?!?\u00a0 This throws me back to the days of asking Mom if I could do something with my friends, and Mom saying no.\u00a0 A response which begged\u00a0the follow-up question: Why?\u00a0 To which Mom would say, \u201cBecause I\u2019m the mother and I said \u2018no\u2019, that\u2019s why.\u201d\u00a0 Uhhh\u2026Federal Government?\u00a0 Could I have any more money? <\/em>\u00a0\u201cNo!\u00a0 Because we\u2019re the Federal Government and we said no, that\u2019s why!\u201d\u00a0 Uhhh.\u00a0 Uhhm.\u00a0 Ok.\u00a0 But I HATE YOU!\u00a0 You\u2019re RUINING my life!\u00a0 You never let me do ANYTHING!!\u00a0 I\u2019m going to my room now.\u00a0 And I\u2019ll NEVER love you again.\u00a0 EVER!!!<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
