Ok, you never really did seem on board with my fun movie theme idea.\u00a0 I’m not sure why.\u00a0 Is it because you’re not fun?!\u00a0 Naturally I’d never SAY\u00a0something like;\u00a0that would be hurtful.\u00a0 I’ll just wonder quietly to myself…<\/span><\/p>\n

And NOPE!\u00a0 Too late.\u00a0 Don\u2019t try to be all “but we really loved the movie theme idea<\/em>” NOW.\u00a0 Because now?\u00a0 We\u2019re done with it,\u00a0I hope you\u2019re happy – and we’re moving on to\u00a0my latest reads\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

I was right and Cutting for Stone<\/em> was a big boo-hoo fest.\u00a0 And I still find myself wondering how everyone at Missing Hospital (everyone who is left, that is \u2013 cue tissue box) is doing from time-to-time.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

But you know what was an even BIGGER boo-hoo fest than Cutting for Stone?\u00a0 The Tiger\u2019s Wife<\/em> by T\u00e9a Obreht.\u00a0 In fact, it\u2019s put me off ALL of the \u201cWife\u201d books for the rest of\u2026life.\u00a0 The Time Traveler\u2019s Wife, The Shoemaker\u2019s Wife, The Kitchen God\u2019s Wife, A Reliable Wife<\/em>, A Blahbity-blah-blah Wife.\u00a0 Naw.\u00a0 I\u2019m out.\u00a0 The Tiger\u2019s Wife<\/em> did me in.\u00a0 [Spoiler Alert] Set in Serbia (or Bosnia?\u00a0 Maybe even the Ottoman Empire wherever that is??\u00a0 The setting is actually a mystery), a Turkish apothecary kills a pregnant deaf-mute because she sympathizes with and subsequently feeds\u00a0a half-wild, half-tamed tiger.\u00a0 Why did you have to kill her, Apothecary Man?\u00a0 You couldna let her birth the baby and go on her merry way??\u00a0 \u2018Cause Karma\u2019s a b**ch and then YOU got killed, didn\u2019tcha?\u00a0 During some WWII ethnic cleansing effort, I believe.\u00a0 But, really, who knows – it\u2019s all so senseless.\u00a0 And that Deathless Man bit was a distracting sidebar, but we all know the real point of the story was to break your heart over all the poor unfortunates.\u00a0 Gulp.\u00a0 I\u2019m gettin\u2019 choked up all over again.\u00a0 And you wonder why I\u2019m off all the Wifely books?<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking of \u201coff\u201d.\u00a0 You know what else I\u2019m off of?\u00a0 Food.\u00a0 I\u2019m reading The Anatomist\u2019s Apprentice<\/em> by Tessa Harris.\u00a0 It\u2019s set in olde tyme England circa 1780.\u00a0 It\u2019s about the dawning age of Coroners.\u00a0 But before they had\u2026er…bodily preservation techniques.\u00a0 GAAAAacck!!\u00a0 All of the descriptions of smell and \u201cgrave wax\u201d will put you off food too.\u00a0 Which isn\u2019t really so bad as a pre-holiday slim down effort.\u00a0 But as an enjoyable, lighthearted reading experience?\u00a0 GACK!<\/span><\/p>\n

Finally, I started to read The Twelve Tribes of Hattie<\/em> by Ayana Mathis but only got about 10 minutes into it.\u00a0 That part about Hattie\u2019s twin babies dying of pneumonia?\u00a0 That\u2019s a deal-breaker for me.\u00a0 Homey don\u2019t play that.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

So\u2026what unexpired library books do I have left on my Nook?\u00a0 The Ruin of a Rogue<\/em> by Miranda Neville; A Kiss at Midnight<\/em> by Eloisa James; and Highlander Most Wanted<\/em> by Maya Banks.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Now THESE?\u00a0 These I can get behind.\u00a0 You ALWAYS know how they\u2019re going to turn out \u2013 the rogue will get ruined or do some ruining (nummy, num, num); there will be a kiss at midnight (uhhhh-huhhh that\u2019s what I\u2019m talkin\u2019 \u2018bout); and that naughty Highlander?\u00a0 The one who\u2019s \u201cmost wanted\u201d??\u00a0 He\u2019s gonna git hisself captured!\u00a0 But in a good way–no tears (or grave wax gaaack!<\/em>) will be involved.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
