My mother just reminded me that November 9, 2013 was the TWENTY-FOURTH anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.<\/p>\n
Whoa.\u00a0 Wait up.\u00a0 What?!?<\/p>\n
The Berlin Wall fell TWENTY-FOUR years ago last week?!?\u00a0 That\u2019s totally impossible.\u00a0 Because I was there when it fell, and I\u2019m only twenty-four NOW.\u00a0 [Ok, maybe not REALLY twenty-four, just MENTALLY twenty-four\u2026but still.\u00a0 I suppose that old adage about time flying blah, blah, blah is totally true.]<\/p>\n
I still have all the pieces of the Wall I got when I was there.\u00a0 [Well, besides the pieces I gave away as GIFTS!\u00a0 I mean, come on!\u00a0 How many times in your life do you get to give away pieces of some ratty-tatty wall as GIFTS?!?\u00a0 Work it, Girlfriend!)\u00a0 The pieces I have left are somewhere in the basement.\u00a0 I\u2019m sure they\u2019re filled with asbestos and e.Coli, but perhaps if I go hunting for them, I\u2019ll find my misplaced job there too?<\/p>\n
I\u2019ve always maintained that I didn\u2019t LOSE my job; they TOOK it instead.\u00a0 The word \u2018lose\u2019 connotes a misplacing of my job (perhaps accidentally?) with last year\u2019s Christmas decorations.\u00a0 Well, it\u2019s almost time to take out the Christmas decorations again, and I\u2019m pretty sure I won\u2019t find my job there.\u00a0 But maybe I WILL find my job with my pieces of the Berlin Wall??\u00a0 Maybe??!<\/p>\n
You say no?\u00a0 Well screw you!\u00a0 AND the horse you rode in on.\u00a0 Don\u2019t be sooooo negative!\u00a0 I can\u2019t stand your negative attitude.\u00a0 Move along.<\/p>\n

Ok, if you\u2019re not gonna move it, then I\u2019ll tell you one other story about my Berlin Wall days.<\/p>\n
My friends and I \u2018borrowed\u2019 butter knives from the youth hostel where we were staying \u2013 mistakenly thinking that we were going to USE them to CHIP OFF pieces of a CONCRETE asbestos, miner-lung-causing<\/span> wall that had stood for DECADES.\u00a0 Yep, with flimsy butter knives.<\/p>\n That didn\u2019t work.\u00a0 Surprise, surprise.<\/p>\n But you know what did?!\u00a0 Chatting up the guys we met as we went through Checkpoint Charlie did the trick!\u00a0 These kindaguys will almost always let you follow them – and at some point they\u2019ll procure a hammer and pick which they will let you borrow.<\/p>\n Then, my friends, you can go to town on the Eastern Bloc!<\/p>\n This Fall-of-the-Berlin-Wall experience has developed into a lifelong philosophy of mine: Celebratory people with sledgehammers ALWAYS get more accomplished than people with borrowed butter knives.\u00a0 Always.<\/p>\n With a philosophy like that, why WOULDN\u2019T you want to hire me?!?\u00a0 And if you can\u2019t do that, then at least tell me where you put my job!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" My mother just reminded me that November 9, 2013 was the TWENTY-FOURTH anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
