Duh duh da-da-da-da\u00a0DUH DUH\u00a0duh da da da duh duh duh DUH da da da duddleuddleuddleDUH!\u00a0 (Get it?\u00a0 It was the Can-Can music.\u00a0\u00a0\u2018Cause Scan Scam sounds like Can-Can.\u00a0 That took too much ‘splainin’ time.\u00a0 If you can\u2019t spot right away that I\u2019m witty and clever, then I can\u2019t help you.\u00a0 Please forward this blog on to someone who Can.\u00a0 Can.\u00a0\u00a0 Hee hee hee<\/em>)<\/p>\n

So\u2026yesterday, I\u2019m sitting there blogging.\u00a0 And this weird warning pops up on my computer screen.\u00a0 It\u2019s all in red with X\u2019s everywhere and it says, \u201cPOTENTIAL THREAT DETAILS!\u201d<\/p>\n

Acck!<\/p>\n

What should I do?!?<\/p>\n

So being the computer guru I am, I take a computer picture of it (Shift-Print Screen) then put it into an email (Control-V) and send it to my husband who\u2019s on a business trip.<\/p>\n

His\u00a0plane just landed and he texts me back immediately with, \u201cRun another Essentials scan to confirm virus.\u201d<\/p>\n

To which I reply, \u201cThat warning just popped up, I wasn\u2019t doing anything.\u00a0 So how do I run the Essentials whatsy whozit?\u201d<\/p>\n

Him: \u201cMicrosoft Essentials can be found under Programs.\u00a0 Run a quick scan and then a full scan.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hmmm\u2026ok.\u00a0 Is there a button for that?!\u00a0 Beebeebeeebee.\u00a0<\/em> (That\u2019s me making that dumb-dumb sound while running my finger rapidly up-and-down over my lips.)<\/p>\n

Eventually I figure it out (hint: type \u201cMicrosoft Essentials\u201d into the \u201cSearch\u00a0Programs and Files\u201d\u00a0box with the little magnifying glass next to it) and run the Quick Scan.<\/p>\n

Nothin\u2019.\u00a0 But I can hear \u2013 very faintly \u2013 some carpenter ants inside the computer munching on all of the important words stored in there.<\/p>\n

I run the Full Scan.<\/p>\n

Nothin\u2019.<\/p>\n

I am now out an hour-and-a-half of my day.<\/p>\n

And that is what I am calling the Scan Scam.\u00a0 What was that all about anyway?!\u00a0 Just remindin’\u00a0me I have them-there\u00a0Microsoft products on my laptop?!?\u00a0 What a waste of time!!!\u00a0 I am very busy.\u00a0 I have LOTS to do.<\/p>\n
