I have received no less than three mailed letters informing me that, due to federal budget cuts on or after April 28, 2013*, my unemployment compensation will be reduced by 18.2%.<\/p>\n

Uh…ok.\u00a0 18.2%?\u00a0 That’s pretty specific.\u00a0 Methinks someone’s been feverishly\u00a0doin’ some math in the back room.<\/p>\n

In which case, here’s an open notice to\u00a0the math wiz:\u00a0\u00a0HOW ABOUT STOP SENDING STUPID\u00a0EXPENSIVE LETTERS THROUGH THE MAIL AND KEEP MY UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION THE SAME?!??<\/p>\n

I mean, come on!!\u00a0 It’s not MY\u00a0responsibility to keep the U.S. Postal Service in business.\u00a0\u00a0Survival of the fittest, I say!\u00a0 Darwinian theory!\u00a0 Free market trade!!\u00a0 Laissez-faire economics and ALL THAT JAZZ!!!<\/p>\n

Who’s with me?\u00a0 Revolt!\u00a0 REVOLT!!!\u00a0 Let’s add a smidge of that olde-time competition into the U.S. Postal Service mix and see what happens as\u00a0stamp prices drop and service improves.\u00a0 After all, this concept is what our\u00a0great country is founded on.\u00a0 That – and having\u00a0the unemployed on the dole.<\/p>\n

Speaking of which…enough about our great country…back to me…<\/p>\n

Here is an example of\u00a0one of the three mailed letters I recently received.\u00a0 I have not changed a single, solitary word:<\/p>\n

NOTICE OF DECISION\u00a0<\/strong>[Oh, ok.\u00a0 I didn’t even know anything was being DISCUSSED!\u00a0 So it comes as a bit of a shock that you’ve arrived at a DECISION already.\u00a0 But nonetheless, I have a feeling in my bones that it’s going to be a good decision.\u00a0 Because you ALWAYS make good, solid decisions.]<\/em><\/p>\n

Section of Law Used:\u00a0 Colorado Unemployment Security Act, Supp App Act 2008 T IV EUC PL 110-252 <\/strong>[Oh.\u00a0 Ok.\u00a0 In fact after reading THAT, I’m GLAD I didn’t know anything was being discussed ’cause I have NO idea what you just said.\u00a0 Unless it was in Spanish?\u00a0 In which case, I need to press numero uno to get someone English-speaking on the line.\u00a0 How much are we paying for THAT nifty feature, I wonder?!]<\/em><\/p>\n

Decision:\u00a0 <\/strong>[Oh my goodness!\u00a0 Oh my GOODNESS!\u00a0 Here we go!\u00a0 HERE WE GO!!!\u00a0 This is gonna be good.\u00a0 But first,\u00a0what’s up with all the caps?!?\u00a0 Don’t my peeps at the Department of Labor know that “all caps” conveys a shout-y tone of voice?\u00a0 Which is\u00a0kinda de-motivating in the way the teacher’s red pen marks on your test are de-motivating.\u00a0 In fact, they should have just done their “all\u00a0caps”\u00a0in a nice bright red\u00a0to get the horror out-of-the-way all at once.]\u00a0\u00a0<\/em>WE CAN STILL PAY YOU FEDERAL EXTENDED BENEFITS (ALSO CALLED EMERGENCY UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION OR EUC).\u00a0 BY LAW, WE HAD TO CHECK WETHER YOU NEED TO SWITCH TO A CLAIM FOR REGULAR\u00a0BENEFITS.\u00a0 WE CANNOT PAY YOU ON A NEW CLAIM BECAUSE YOU HAVE NOT GONE BACK TO WORK AND EARNED $2,000.\u00a0 ONCE YOU RETURN TO WORK AND EARN $2,000, YOU MAY NEED TO SWITCH TO A CLAIM FOR REGULAR BENEFITS IF YOU ARE OUT OF WORK AGAIN.\u00a0 AT THAT TIME, YOU MUST CALL US SO THAT WE CAN GO OVER YOUR CLAIM WITH YOU.\u00a0 REMEMBER THAT YOU MUST MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE LAW.<\/strong><\/p>\n

[What?!?\u00a0 What.\u00a0 The.\u00a0 F^^^??!\u00a0 Am I supposed to DO\u00a0something??\u00a0\u00a0Or just continue to sit here collecting the dole?!?\u00a0 This is confusing.\u00a0\u00a0Numero uno!\u00a0 NUMERO UNO!!!!!!)<\/p>\n
