{"id":1627,"date":"2013-07-19T15:21:48","date_gmt":"2013-07-19T21:21:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newstayathomemom.com\/?p=1627"},"modified":"2013-07-19T15:21:48","modified_gmt":"2013-07-19T21:21:48","slug":"checkity-check-check","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newstayathomemom.com\/?p=1627","title":{"rendered":"Checkity, check, check!"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Do you remember that Hamburger Helper slogan: Hamburger Helper helps the hamburger help HER make a great meal.<\/p>\n<p>Well I say BARF\u00a0to all of it!\u00a0 Hamburger Helper AND their slogan.<\/p>\n<p>While I long to go back to the days of yore when moms had nothing else to do but make great meals, that ship has sailed and moms have to do all that mom stuff AND work outside the home.<\/p>\n<p>But I&#8217;m getting off track from my original point which is&#8230;the one time I had Hamburger Helper, it tasted like barf.\u00a0 And to complicate things, I think their old slogan from the 80&#8217;s was totally misogynistic.\u00a0 And so on principal, I won&#8217;t buy the stuff now that I have nothing to do but make great meals (I&#8217;m TRYING to get a job, so screw you).<\/p>\n<p>And did you know?\u00a0 The word misogynistic is one of the words I use that my husband HATES.\u00a0 (Yes, I sometimes use it in casual conversation.\u00a0 Trust me.\u00a0 There are\u00a0plenty of reasons it comes up.\u00a0 Hamburger Helper and their rat-bastard\u00a080&#8217;s slogan for one.)<\/p>\n<p>And since we&#8217;re on the topic, I&#8217;ll share with you the\u00a0other words I use that he hates.\u00a0 In no particular order, they are:<\/p>\n<p>2)Discordant.\u00a0 I usually use this when referring to\u00a0annoying\u00a0Lynyrd Skynyrd\u00a0crap music he listens\u00a0to where they go off on tangential guitar riffs and the whole discordant mess\u00a0makes me want to claw my ears off.<\/p>\n<p>3)Strident.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not sure it&#8217;s the actual WORD he hates.\u00a0\u00a0But my voice BEING strident?\u00a0 Totally.\u00a0 Because I can make my strident voice sound eerily like my mother&#8217;s strident voice when calling his name.\u00a0\u00a0Naturally, I use this to good effect when I need something.\u00a0 Say Hubby and I are in a crowded bar\u00a0and I need him to get me a drink.\u00a0 I make my voice sound as much like my mother&#8217;s as possible when I speak his name stridently\u00a0over everyone&#8217;s head.\u00a0 This\u00a0immediately gets his attention and I get my beer!\u00a0 Win\/Win.\u00a0 Hi Mom!<\/p>\n<p>Ok&#8230;so&#8230;there are three most-hated words.\u00a0 And then there are\u00a0three most-hated phrases, which are:<\/p>\n<p>1)Fixin&#8217;s.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not sure this is actually a phrase, but Hubby insists it is.\u00a0 Fixin&#8217;s is typically\u00a0used in conjunction with dinner plans wherein I might say something like, &#8220;I have fixin&#8217;s for tacos so that&#8217;s what we&#8217;re having for dinner.\u00a0 No, we\u00a0can&#8217;t use the meat\u00a0to make burgers on the grill &#8217;cause I don&#8217;t have any other fixin&#8217;s for burgers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>2)Tips n&#8217; Tricks.\u00a0 It&#8217;s just what it sounds like &#8211; insider information or helpful hints based on someone else&#8217;s lessons-learned.\u00a0\u00a0My friend from Australia claims this isn&#8217;t actually a real U.S. saying; that I just made it up.\u00a0 But I beg to differ.\u00a0 It can be used in a multitude of ways for a variety of reasons.\u00a0 For example: &#8220;Hey Department of Labor.\u00a0 My job search doesn&#8217;t seem to be going so well.\u00a0 Do you have any tips n&#8217; tricks you can share with me for finding employment comparable to what I had this time last year??&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And the third phrase?\u00a0 See if you can pick it out from the following\u00a0example: This has been a good blog post, hasn&#8217;t it?\u00a0\u00a0Fun?\u00a0\u00a0Check.\u00a0\u00a0Too much information??\u00a0 Check.\u00a0 All done???\u00a0 <strong>CHECKITY, CHECK, CHECK!!!\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Do you remember that Hamburger Helper slogan: Hamburger Helper helps the hamburger help HER make a great meal.
