{"id":1612,"date":"2013-07-16T16:57:28","date_gmt":"2013-07-16T22:57:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newstayathomemom.com\/?p=1612"},"modified":"2013-07-16T20:51:21","modified_gmt":"2013-07-17T02:51:21","slug":"twinkies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newstayathomemom.com\/?p=1612","title":{"rendered":"Twinkies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>They have made a comeback which Hostess* is touting as the sweetest in the world.\u00a0 Saved from the brink of extinction &#8211; Twinkies \u00a0are baaaaAAAACK!<\/p>\n<p>But should they be?!?<\/p>\n<p>I walked into Wal-Mart the other day &amp; there was a huge stand of them RIGHT THERE.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Thinking my children had never had them and it might be a fun novelty to try,\u00a0I bought a box.\u00a0 [<em>I know.\u00a0 I know.\u00a0 I&#8217;m an\u00a0End-cap Marketers dream-come-true<\/em>.]<\/p>\n<p>When I got home, it turned out the kids HAVE\u00a0had them before.\u00a0 [<em>When? \u00a0How?? \u00a0NEVER\u00a0on my watch &#8211; that&#8217;s for dang sure<\/em>!]\u00a0 And they LOVE them!!!<\/p>\n<p>Really, what&#8217;s NOT to love?? \u00a0A yellow, cream-filled sponge cake that tastes like&#8230;.a sponge, fresh out of the package-which-has-kept-it-oddly-moist-until-now.\u00a0 In fact, that&#8217;s how they make Twinkies.\u00a0\u00a0They take a fresh sponge, remove the green scrubber top, form the remaining yellow-ness into a shape that does not naturally occur in nature, and fill it with sweetened\u00a0shortening.<\/p>\n<p>Yes. \u00a0This is absolutely how they make Twinkies.<\/p>\n<p>I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP!!<\/p>\n<p>They also include a fun\u2026er\u2026ingredient called sodium acid pyrophosphate which has the added benefit of making your tongue tingle (burn?\u00a0 itch??) in an uncomfortable way when you eat a Twinkie.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, with all the many\u00a0other fun\u2026er\u2026ingredients they contain, Twinkies can actually stay fresh long after a nuclear holocaust has occurred (take note, Doomsday Preppers.\u00a0 You&#8217;ll want these for your dessert stash).\u00a0 \u00a0And if you\u2019re lost in the woods, you can start a fire with them.\u00a0 [<em>I know my Latin.\u00a0 And \u2018pyro\u2019 &#8211; as in sodium acid PYROphosphate \u2013 is derived from the word \u2018pyromaniacs\u2019 who are people who like to start fires when they&#8217;re lost in the woods<\/em>.]<\/p>\n<p>In summation, Twinkies are a shining example of American know-how and ingenuity; Free market economics at its best.\u00a0 They are a nutritious, tasty treat for people of all ages and walks of life.<\/p>\n<p>Well.\u00a0 Perfect for everyone except Vegetarians, that is.\u00a0\u00a0Because Twinkies contain beef fat.\u00a0 Who would have guessed?!<\/p>\n<p>Yum** &#8211; please pass me another!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>*As a side note, does anyone\u00a0else think \u2018Hostess\u2019 is a dumb, outdated name for a company?!?\u00a0 It also starts to sound weird if you say it too many times in a row.<\/p>\n<p>**When I say &#8220;Yum!&#8221; I really mean, &#8220;Why does my tongue burn and itch &#8211; and why are the taste buds actually JUMPING out of my mouth?!?&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>They have made a comeback which Hostess* is touting as the sweetest in the world.\u00a0 Saved from the brink of extinction &#8211; Twinkies \u00a0are baaaaAAAACK!
