There’s this crazy (slash admirable) sub-set of neighbor ladies who go to a local park three mornings a week to work out.\u00a0 AT 5:30 A.M.!\u00a0\u00a0 Did you catch that part about admirable (AND CRAZY)??<\/p>\n

On the drive there (No.\u00a0 Of course there’s no\u00a0walking to the workout.\u00a0 Driving only.\u00a0 They’re not THAT crazy slash admirable ;-)), we see the work-release people out looking for jobs.<\/p>\n

I mentioned it’s 5:30 in the morning, right?\u00a0 And there’s pretty much NO\u00a0jobs available at that time of day.\u00a0 And there’s also most likely NONE to be found on that street because there’s only the jail there…and the work-out park.\u00a0 And maybe an automotive\u00a0place, but they probably\u00a0have all the help they need.\u00a0\u00a0Or maybe they take the first few work-releasers who come in;\u00a0But I haven’t really seen anyone\u00a0RUNNING\u00a0down the street to get there first,\u00a0so maybe not.<\/p>\n

Which leads me to believe these people are actually mosey-ing to the bus stop to\u00a0go downtown where the\u00a0daily job prospects are a bit….er….richer??\u00a0\u00a0All of their worldly possessions appear to be stuffed into a\u00a0garbage bag.\u00a0 So they could just be\u00a0making a bid\u00a0for freedom.\u00a0 Who’s\u00a0to say.<\/p>\n

Now, I’ve joined the crazy-slash-admirables a\u00a0time or two for the 5:30 a.m. workout…but I can’t go with them tomorrow because I have a meeting.\u00a0 An in-person reemployment and work-search plan appointment at the local workforce center. (Phew!\u00a0 That’s a mouthful!)<\/p>\n

And I’m worried – really worried – that pretty soon I’ll be joining the garbage-bag-crew wandering to the bus stop in search of work.<\/p>\n

You see, this is the meeting wherein “they” (whoever “they” are) decide if I’m worthy of receiving Emergency Unemployment Compensation.\u00a0 I’ve gone beyond my 26 weeks of regular unemployment compensation.\u00a0 And now Congress will provide me with federal extended benefits, also called Emergency Unemployment Compensation or EUC.\u00a0 (A catchy acronym, no?\u00a0 Anyone else think it sounds like you’re\u00a0hocking a loogie?)\u00a0 But only if I meet the following requirements:<\/p>\n
