High drama in the a.m. yesterday…<\/p>\n

The kids discovered a\u00a0bird\u00a0sitting and\u00a0shaking on our back patio.\u00a0 He looked like a goldfinch, only a bit more brown.\u00a0 So maybe a Colorado goldfinch?\u00a0 (How do I know about\u00a0‘dem\u00a0goldfinches?\u00a0 I’m from New Jersey – where the\u00a0Goldfinch is the state bird.\u00a0 No, I am\u00a0NOT bustin’\u00a0yer chops.\u00a0\u00a0Me and my cousin Vinny\u00a0know from state birds).<\/p>\n

I\u00a0suspected he ran into the sliding glass door, but from the look of the backwards foot & bright red eye on its\u00a0right side, it\u00a0had WAY more wrong than a run-in with the sliding glass door could account for. \u00a0And with the 90 degree heat beating down on him, he was fading fast.<\/p>\n

To Sissy, the girl who wants to be a vet, this was the opportunity of a lifetime.\u00a0 She sprang into action –\u00a0poking holes in a\u00a0shoebox, lining it with paper towels and\u00a0adding a smidge of water in the lid\u00a0of an old spaghetti jar\u00a0for good measure.\u00a0\u00a0The final step was hoisting the bird up-and-in but I insisted she put on some disposable craft gloves (beat THAT, Martha Stewart!!) to stand between her and a possible case of avian flu.<\/p>\n

Mission accomplished and the\u00a0hubby and kids flew\u00a0out of the house (tee hee hee – pun intended.\u00a0 Get it?\u00a0 FLEW?!??\u00a0 Beat THAT, Martha Stewart!!!)\u00a0\u00a0on their way to the Bird Rescue.<\/p>\n
