Some “lucky” group of sinners\u00a0wins it at an innocuous Friday Fish Fry and then spends the rest of Lent being worthy of it.\u00a0 The point is to pull out all the toothpicks – one toothpick for every good deed you do.\u00a0 By Easter Eve, you should have all the toothpicks long-gone and then you can decorate the triumphant Crown of Thorns and reflect on how GOOOOOOOD you’ve been preparing for Christ’s rising.<\/p>\n
The problem we’ve run into is that this is TODAY’S picture.\u00a0 We’re at T minus 2.\u00a0 And there are a LOT of toothpicks left.\u00a0 Too many in fact.\u00a0 We’re not gonna make it.<\/p>\n
(Now, if I had said “We’re not gonna TAKE it,” that would be cause to resurrect my 80’s-song-for-every-moment-of-life theory.\u00a0 But I didn’t.\u00a0 Instead I worked the word “resurrect” as a pun into a blog about the Crown of Thorns.\u00a0 Either way, I win.\u00a0 And so do you.\u00a0 Thanks for stopping by.)<\/em><\/p>\n The main flaw-in-the-plan\u00a0as identified by my husband is that “there are about 150 too many toothpicks for any one family.”<\/p>\n The main flaw-in-the-plan\u00a0as identified by me is that “the toothpicks have somehow been BAKED into the crown and now won’t come loose despite our best efforts.”\u00a0 In essence, this whole thing has devolved into a King Arthur sword-in-the-stone effort; One that leaves you with splinters in your fingers.<\/p>\n But now?\u00a0 Now we’re in a mad scramble to get the toothpicks gone (break ’em off if you have to – success at all costs!).<\/p>\n Puppy pee-pee’d outside?\u00a0 Pull a thorn for him!<\/strong><\/p>\n Sonny (who continues to hold out hope that there might be some way we could actually EAT the bread crown\u00a0once the thorns are all gone) came down for breakfast after TWO\u00a0reminders instead of FIVE.\u00a0\u00a0THREE\u00a0thorns for him!!<\/strong><\/p>\n Sissy’s\u00a0uniform skirt made it\u00a0NEXT TO the dirty clothes hamper?\u00a0\u00a0It’s a\u00a0pull-one-get-one-free\u00a0special!\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n So.\u00a0 The lesson here is…should you be the lucky “winner” of a Crown of Thorns next year…give it away to another family of sinners as your Lenten Good Deed.\u00a0 Either that or stop being such a family of sinners.\u00a0 At least\u00a0 for 40 days.\u00a0 Is that too much to ask?\u00a0 Now pass the olive-oil-and-balsamic-vinegar.\u00a0 This is gonna taste GOOOOOOD!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Have you seen this Lenten Scam?\u00a0 It’s called a Crown of Thorns.
